You told us, we listened

We are continuously welcoming feedback from users of our Traffic Scotland website to improve features and content delivered by our service. Some of the improvements and features introduced so far include:

  • Gritter names – your ideas have helped to name our gritters. Names such as Freeze Witherspoon, Gritney Spears and Taylor Drift. View the gritters on our Gritter Tracker
  • Storm update webpage – we launched a webpage to bring updates altogether during forecast storm weather to assist you when planning your journey during severe weather.
  • The Winter Hub – a one-stop shop for winter driving tips, weather information and the gritter tracker. Visit the Winter Hub here
  • Quick links accessible from our homepage - if you prefer to view incidents, live traffic cameras and roadworks in list form, this could be useful for you!

  • The Carbon Calculator – to assist in planning the greenest journey possible. This can be found by entering your journey information into the route planner on our homepage
  • Low Emmision Zones - on the homepage map - you can now zoom in to each city to see where Low Emission Zones are in action, just select the LEZ filter.
  • National Cycle Network - you can now view the cycle routes in Scotland with a filter on our homepage map

Further feedback on some of your questions:

  • 'The incidents aren't up-to-date on your website, the last update was a month ago.' - incidents on our website are updated when there is new information or a change in the details. If the incident hasn't been updated in a while, that's because the status of the incident remains the same.
  • 'I can't find variable message signs (VMS) on the map.' - that's correct. They are not available on our website as the website shows live traffic news. VMS can be viewed when travelling on the trunk road network.
  • 'Nothing is coming up when I use the site search.' - we are reviewing usage of the site’s search and intend to improve the search functionality in the coming months. For travel updates, you can check the live traffic information map on our homepage, the live traffic information page or by calling us on 0800 028 1414.
  • 'Where can I submit name ideas for the gritters?' - the road operating companies have the lovely responsibility for naming the gritters, therefore they are the best people to contact. Information about road operating companies and which road they cover can be found on this interactive map.
  • 'Where do I find out about the M8 Woodside Viaduct Roadworks?' - full information can be found on this page
