M9 Junctions 3-5 | Drainage and Resurfacing Works

A series of drainage investigations and resurfacing improvements is planned for the M9 between Junctions 3 and 5, with works scheduled to take place over eleven nights from 20 May to 4 June.

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, will carry out drainage investigations over 2.8 kilometres of the northbound M9 near Linlithgow Loch. A 1,000-metre section of the M9 southbound at Junction 3 will then be resurfaced, followed by an 800-metre section of the M9 northbound prior to Junction 5.

Works will take place overnight between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00, with carriageway closures and signed diversion routes in place to ensure the safety of the workforce and public, as detailed in the table below:

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These further drainage investigations will provide data to help us understand how water draining from the motorway affects Linlithgow Loch. We’ll continue to work with other relevant organisations to identify any measures that can be taken to reduce the impact.

“Resurfacing works will also improve ride quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M9.

“Carriageway closures are essential, however we’ve scheduled these works overnight to minimise disruption.

“If you do need to travel on the M9 during these closures, please allow some extra time for your journey.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
