M8 Major Works | Gantry Upgrades

Amey’s Transport Scotland Infrastructure Contract (TSIC), on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking a major package of gantry refurbishments on the M8 – within the Amey Southwest Trunk Road network - between September and November 2026. The work will require the following closures and diversions:

September - November

Mon 28th September – Fri 3rd October: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 16 – 21)

·  Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 16 – 21, Jct 17 on-slip from West Graham St, Jct 19 Off & On-slip from Newton St, Jct 18 to Charing Cross off-slip total closure, Jct 20 off-slip to West St.

·  Traffic to divert down Newton St then A804 to Argyle St then turn right on James Watt St - continue along Broomielaw - head south on Glasgow Bridge - head west along Nelson St then turn left onto Paterson St - join M77 via Dalintober St - join M8 via M77.

·       Closure of Jct 19 on-slip from Waterloo St and the Jct 19 link road from Stobocross.

·       Continue A814 to Argyle St then turn right on James Watt St - continue along Broomielaw - head south on Glasgow Bridge - head west along Nelson St then turn left onto Paterson St - join M77 via Dalintober St - join M8 via M77.

Mon 5th October – Fri 9th October: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 27 – 29)

·  Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 27 and 29, Jct 29 off-slip to St James, Jct 28 and 27 off-slips shut, and slip via Jct 28-A737.

·  Traffic will exit the M8 WB via Jct 27 off-slip - join Renfrew Rd SB - turn right to A726 Niddry St - continue A726 onto Caledonia St - continue A726 to St James Interchange - join M8 WB

Mon 12th October – Fri 16th October: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 27 – 29)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 27 and 29, Jct 29 off-slip to St James, Jct 28 off-slip, 27 on/off-slips shut, and slip via Jct 28 to the A737.

· Traffic will exit the M8 WB via Jct 27 off-slip - join Renfrew Rd SB - turn right to A726 Niddry St - continue A726 onto Caledonia St - continue A726 to St James Interchange - join M8 WB.

Mon 19th October – Fri 23rd October: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 25a – 29)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 25a and 29, Jct 28 to the A737, Jct 26 & 27 on/off-slips and Jct 29 off-slip.

· Exit M8 WB J25a off-slip - join Old Govan Rd - turn right onto Kings Inch Rd - continue onto Hillington Rd - take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto Glasgow Rd - take the 3rd exit at Millburn roundabout - continue on High Street - turn left onto Hairst Street - continue onto Paisley Rd. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Renfrew Rd - continue on Renfrew Rd - turn right onto Weir St - Old Sneddon St - St James St - turn right onto Caledonia St - Greenock Road to St James Interchange - join M8 WB.

Mon 26th October – Fri 30th October: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 25/25a – 26)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 25/25a – 26, Jct 25/26 on-slips, and 25a/26 off-slips.

· Diversion Via J25a WB off-slip - Old Govan Road - Kings Inch Road - Hillington Road - rejoin M8 J26 WB on-slip.

· Jct 25 on - Fifty Pitches Road - Shieldhall Road - Renfrew Road - Hillington Road - Rejoin J26 WB.

· Jct 26 off - Diversion Via J25 WB off-slip - Fifty Pitches Road - Shieldhall Road - Renfrew Road - Hillington Road - Rejoin J26 WB.

Mon 2nd November – Fri 6th November: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 22 – 25/Jct 18 Kingston Br/M74s Jct 1/M77 Jct 1)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 22 – 25, Jct 18 secondary carriageway (Kingston Bridge), Jct 24/25 off-slips, Jct 24 on-slip, M8-M77 Jct 1 s/b, M74-M8 w/b Jct 23 off-slip, and Jct 25 – 24 e/b lane closure.

·  Div for M8: M77 off at Jct 1 - Dumbreck Road to Paisley Road West - right to A739 - Diversion ends.

·  Div for M74: M8 off at J23 Dumbreck Road and follow diversion as above

·  Div for Jct 24 on-slip: Helen Street to Paisley Road West follow Diversion

Mon 9th November – Fri 13th November: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 19 – 22/M8e Jct 22 – M77)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 19 – 22, Jct 19 link rd from Stobocross, Jct 19 on-slips from both Waterloo St, and Newton St, and M8 e/b Jct 22 – M77 s/b.

· West Street - Paisley Road - Paisley Road West - Helen Street re-join M8 at J24 on-slip

· (Jct 19 Link Rd from Stobocross) - Clyde Tunnel Expressway onto Argyle Street - right onto Robertson Street - left onto Broomielaw - right onto Glasgow Bridge - Bridge Street - right onto Nelson - Morrison Street - left onto Paterson Street - right onto Wallace Street - turn left onto Dalintober Street - end.

· (Jct 19 On from Waterloo St) - Waterloo Street - Wellington Street - Robertson Street - left onto Broomielaw - right onto Glasgow Bridge - Bridge Street - right onto Nelson - Morrison Street - left onto Paterson Street - right onto Wallace Street - turn left onto Dalintober Street - end.

· Leave M74 NB Jct 1 off-slip to Carnoustie Street - Scotland Street - Shields Road - St Andrews Road - Darnley Street - Darnley Road - Titwood Road - Dumbreck Road - Mosspark Boulevard - Paisley Road West - Helen Street - M8 WB Jct 24 on-slip.

Mon 23rd November – Fri 27th November: M8: 8pm to 6am Overnight:
(M8w Jct 12 – 15/M80s Jct 1 – M8 Jct 13)

· Total closure of the M8 westbound between Jct 12 – 15, M80 s/b Jct 1 – M8 w/b Jct 13, Jct 14/12 on-slips, and Jct 15 off-slip to Castle St.

· Leave M8 at Jct 12 - turn left onto A80 Cumbernauld rd - turn right onto A8 Cumbernauld rd - follow onto Alexandra parade - turn right onto Castle st - turn right onto A804 Royston rd - take immediate left onto A803 S/B - rejoin M8 west at Jct 15 loop u on slip - end.

· (M80 s/b Jct 1) - leave M80 at Jct 1 - continue onto Provan rd - turn right onto Cumbernauld rd - turn right onto A8 Cumbernauld rd - follow onto Alexandra parade - turn right onto Castle st - turn right onto A804 Royston rd - take immediate left onto A803 S/B - rejoin M8 west at Jct 15 loop u on slip - end.

· (Jct 14 On from Viewpark Ave) - Continue on Alexandra Park st SB - turn right onto Alexandra parade - turn right onto Castle st - turn right onto A804 Royston rd - take immediate left onto A803 S/B - rejoin M8 west at Jct 15 loop u on slip - end.

· (Jct 15 Off to Castle St) - Leave M8 at Jct 12 - turn left onto A80 Cumbernauld rd - turn right onto A8 Cumbernauld rd - follow onto Alexandra parade - turn right onto Castle st - end.

Works will finish at the end of November and resume in January next year. Dates for this next package of work will be published once the programme is finalised.
