M8 Junction 4A Off-Slip | Resurfacing

M8 Junction 4A
17th of September 2025, 8:00pm to 18th of September 2025, 6:00am

The slip road exiting the westbound M8 at Junction 4A near Whitburn will be closed for resurfacing works between 20:30 and 06:00 on the night of 17 September.

The project will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland renew 50 metres of high friction surfacing to improve safety for motorists.

Westbound traffic wishing to exit at Junction 4A will be directed to continue on the M8 westbound to turn at Junction 5, Shotts, before returning on the M8 eastbound to exit via the Junction 4A eastbound off-slip. This diversion is expected to add approximately 10 minutes and 9 miles to journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said "Closing the westbound M8 Junction 4A off-slip is essential to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce during these resurfacing works.

"We’ve planned the works overnight to minimise disruption as much as possible, however we understand this may still cause inconvenience for some road users. We thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for the diversion.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
