Traffic Scotland website outage 13th to 16th September 2025
The Traffic Scotland website will be unavailable from the morning of 13th September 2025 to the evening of 16th September 2025 due to essential building works taking place at the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre (TSNCC) during this time.
Below we have covered some information about what is taking place, to allow you to continue to plan your journey when travelling on Scotland’s Trunk Road Network during this time.
Q: Where can I find traffic and travel information on the Trunk Road Network when the website is out of service?
A: You can use the following Traffic Scotland services for travel and road updates:
- Traffic Scotland Radio: links to these streams will be made available from our social media feeds. You can find them pinned to the top of each channel and follow these accounts here on X, Facebook and Instagram (links for each).
- Customer Careline: Traffic Scotland national and regional travel radio bulletins are also available via the Customer Careline. Call 0800 028 1414 to access the broadcasts. You can also speak with a Care Line agent if you have a more specific question about your journey.
- Social media: We will continue to share updates on our X account, and you can message us with questions on X and Facebook too.
- Roadside Equipment: You can also get updates from roadside equipment such as Variable Message Signs (VMS), which remain operational during this period. This includes any upcoming hazards, incidents, delays, or road closures
Q: What essential works are taking place at the TSNCC?
A: Transport Scotland will be carrying out essential works to replace the heating system in the TSNCC. Doing this safely requires the electricity supply to the building to be turned off, which affects the equipment used to provide and maintain the Traffic Scotland website.
Q: Why do these works need to take place?
A: Having a reliable and efficient heating system is essential to keep the TSNCC operational and maintain the wellbeing of the team working there to keep the trunk road network operating 24/7. This work will improve the carbon footprint of the TSNCC building for future years in line with Scottish Government commitments and Transport Scotland’s Carbon Management Plan 2022-2027.
Q: Why are these works being done now?
A: When selecting the dates to do these essential works, we took a range of factors into account to minimise the impacts on the travelling public. During the winter period, the TSNCC plays a vital role in responding to extreme weather and having the building and the website unavailable would seriously affect this response. We have carefully planned the works to avoid coinciding with major events. We are also maximising the amount of work that can be done during the weekend, when trunk roads are generally quieter, and our contractors have already completed preparatory work to reduce the length of time that the website is unavailable.
Q: I would like further information about the works and impact on the Traffic Scotland service.
A: Please email us at info@trafficscotland.org if you require detail on the works. For urgent travel enquiries, please contact the Traffic Scotland Care Line on 0800 028 1414.
