M8 Georgetown Road | Bridge Expansion Joint Replacements

M8 at Georgetown Road

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge expansion joint replacements on the M8 at Georgetown Road, between Junction 29 St. James Interchange and Junction 30 (Bishopton Interchange), from Monday 9th December until Friday 20th December 2024. This work will take place overnight between the hours of 10pm and 6am, each night.

To facilitate these works, total closures are required at this location and the programme of closures is as follows:

Monday 9th December until Friday 13th December: There will be a total closure of the eastbound M8 at Junction 30.

  • Vehicles travelling eastbound on M8 will be diverted at Junction 30 onto M898, then onto A726 and then onto St James Interchange where they will merge with M8 at Junction 29.
  • Vehicles travelling southbound on A898 to merge with M8 eastbound will be diverted onto M8 westbound, then onto West Ferry Interchange and then onto M8 eastbound from where they will follow M8 eastbound diversion stated above.
  • Vehicles travelling eastbound on Greenock Road to merge with M8 eastbound, will be diverted onto A726 and then onto St James Interchange where they will merge with M8 at Junction 29.

Monday 16th December until Friday 20th December 2024: There will be a total closure of the westbound M8 at Junction 29.

  • From the 16th to the 17th of December, vehicles travelling westbound on M8 will be diverted at Junction 29 onto the A737 southbound, then onto Linclive Roundabout, then onto A737 northbound, then onto St James Interchange at Junction 29, then onto A726 and then onto M898 where drivers will rejoin the M8 at Junction 30.
  • From the 18th to the 20th of December, vehicles travelling westbound on M8 will be diverted at Junction 29 onto St James Interchange, then onto A726 and then onto M898 where drivers will rejoin the M8 at Junction 30.
  • Vehicles travelling northbound on A737 to merge with M8 westbound will be diverted at St James Interchange onto A726 and then onto M898 where drivers will rejoin the M8 at Junction 30.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and performance of the structure, reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
