Essential Drainage Improvements on the M74 Port Eglington Viaduct Commencing 22nd November 2022

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential drainage improvement works on the M74 motorway bridge - Port Eglinton Viaduct north and south joints between Junctions 1 and 1A. Work will take place from Tuesday 22nd November until Tuesday 29th November 2022, between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night. 
 
This scheme, with a value of £100,000, will benefit around 88,966 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the drainage on the bridge and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future. 
 
The work will be carried out using overnight road closures between the hours of 8pm and 6am and signed diversions will be in place. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while these essential works take place. 
 
The signed diversions for the duration of this work will be as follows: 
•    Tuesday 22nd of November – M74 Northbound Lane 2 & 3 total closure. Diversion - Off at M74 Junction 1 off slip > Carnoustie Street > Scotland Street > M8 Junction 22 Westbound on slip. 
•    Wednesday 23rd of November – M74 Northbound Lane 1 & Hard shoulder closure. M74 Northbound Junction 1 off slip to Carnoustie Street closure. Diversion - Continue on M8 Westbound > M8 Junction 23 Westbound off slip > Dumbreck Road > M8 Junction 23 Eastbound on slip > M74 Junction 1 Southbound off slip (Tradeston) > Paisley Road West > Seaward Street > Scotland Street > Carnoustie Street.  
Glasgow City Council Traffic Management - Closure/stop & go with banksman for the Unnamed access road off Pollokshaws Road that leads to 24hr Access Warehouse on south side of the M74 PEV.  
•    Thursday 24th of November – M74 Northbound Lane 1 & Hard shoulder closure. M74 Northbound Junction 1 off slip to Carnoustie Street closure. Diversion - Continue on M8 Westbound > M8 Junction 23 Westbound off slip > Dumbreck Road > M8 Junction 23 Eastbound on slip > M74 Junction 1 Southbound off slip (Tradeston) > Paisley Road West > Seaward Street > Scotland Street > Carnoustie Street.  
Glasgow City Council Traffic Management – Closure of lane 1 on West Street heading Northbound.                                                                                                       
Glasgow City Council Footpath Pedestrian Management - Diversion around MEWP or banksman to stop works and let pedestrians pass safely on West Street west footpath. 
•    Friday 25th of November – M74 Northbound Lane 2 & 3 total closure. Diversion - Off at M74 Junction 1 off slip > Carnoustie Street > Scotland Street > M8 Junction 22 Westbound on slip. M74 Southbound Lane 3 closure. No diversion. 
•    Saturday 26th of November - M74 Southbound Junction 1 on slip closure. M74 Southbound lane 1 and hard shoulder closure. Diversion - M8 Junction 21 Westbound on slip > M8 Junction 23 Westbound off slip > Dumbreck Road > M8 Junction 23 Eastbound on slip > M74 Southbound.      
•     Sunday 27th of November – M74 Southbound Junction 1 on slip closure. M74 Southbound lane 1 and hard shoulder closure. Diversion - M8 Junction 21 Westbound on slip > M8 Junction 23 Westbound off slip > Dumbreck Road > M8 Junction 23 Eastbound on slip > M74 Southbound.                                                                                                                               
•    Glasgow City Council Traffic Management - Closure of lane 1 on West Street heading Northbound.                                                                                                       
•    Glasgow City Council Footpath Pedestrian Management - Diversion around MEWP or banksman to stop works and let pedestrians pass safely on West Street west footpath. 
•    Monday 28th of November – M74 Southbound Junction 1 on slip closure. M74 Southbound lane 1 and hard shoulder closure. Diversion - M8 Junction 21 Westbound on slip > M8 Junction 23 Westbound off slip > Dumbreck Road > M8 Junction 23 Eastbound on slip > M74 Southbound.                                                                                                                             
•    Glasgow City Council Traffic Management - Traffic lights and closure of Southbound lane on Pollokshaws Road at PEV East abutment.                                                                                       
•    Glasgow City Council Footpath Pedestrian Management - Diversion around MEWP or banksman to stop works and let pedestrians pass safely on Pollokshaws Road east footpath. 
•    Tuesday 29th of November – M74 Southbound Lane 2 and chevron closure. No diversion. 
 
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. 
 
Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
