1st of August 2025, 12:00am to 25th of August 2025, 11:59pm

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is to take place from the 1st -25th August, attracting artists and performers from across the world, to hundreds of stages all over the city, to present shows for every taste.

From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festivals include theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions, and events.

More information can be found on their website, or you can follow The Fringe Society on Twitter @edfringe for news and updates.

If you are traveling to the Fringe, we like to encourage active travel, but do keep a few things in mind.

Traffic on the Trunk Network

Traffic may be heavier than normal on the M8, A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, the A1 and Queensferry Crossing. If you plan to drive to a show, make sure to check ahead for roadworks and current incidents using our route tracker.

While Traffic Scotland only deals with the trunk network, local roads in Edinburgh are managed by Edinburgh City Council. You can follow their dedicated traffic and travel account on Twitter @edintravel.

Public Transport

Public transport is a great way to avoid congestion and travel safely into the city.

If you would like to avoid congestion or plan on drinking at an event, we recommend taking public transport. Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams operate within the city, and Edinburgh Trams connects the city centre with the airport. Scotrail operate trains all over Scotland. Stagecoach, Megabus and Citylink offer buses. Check with Traveline for full details on public transport options.

Local Rules and Regulations

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest event of its kind in the world, and we welcome those visiting Scotland for the festivals. We also ask road users to keep a few things in mind if they are visiting from outside Scotland.

It's important to remember when you're driving in Scotland to keep to the left.
