Amey is undertaking surfacing improvements on the A96 to the north of Huntly between Wednesday 12th March and Wednesday 19th March.
The £330,000 project, which Amey is carrying out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will address defects on more than 750 metres of the A96 road surface near the village of Cairnie.
Work will take place between the Cairnie junction and 520 metres south of Windyraw junction. The resurfacing was previously scheduled to be undertaken in Spring 2024 before being postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the essential maintenance will be carried out initially under overnight convoy and temporary traffic lights, followed by a full weekend road closure of the A96.
There will be temporary traffic lights in place between 9.30am and 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th March, before overnight convoy working between 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th March and 6.30am on Thursday 13th March.
Temporary traffic lights will again be in place between 6.30am on Thursday 13th March and 7.30pm on Friday 14th March.
The full weekend road closure of the A96 will then be in place between 7.30pm on Friday 14th March and 6.30am on Monday 17th March.
Temporary traffic lights will again be in place between 6:30am and 7.30pm on Monday 17th March.
There will then be two further nights of convoy working between 7.30pm and 6.30am on Monday 17th March and Tuesday 18th March.
All traffic management is scheduled to be removed by 6.30am on Wednesday 19th March.
During the full weekend road closure the following diversion will be in place.
Northbound traffic will turn left onto the A920 at Huntly, proceeding onto the A941 towards Dufftown at Dufftown traffic will turn right onto the B9014 and then left onto the B975 Castle Road before rejoining the A941 to Craigellachie. Traffic can then turn right onto the A95 and continue to Keith.
Southbound traffic on the A96 will turn right onto the A95 at Keith, continuing to Craigellachie before proceeding onto the A941 through Dufftown, before turning right onto the A920 to re-join the A96 at Huntly.
The resurfacing will benefit nearly 7,300 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
