A78 Ardrossan | Essential Resurfacing
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out essential resurfacing and maintenance works on the A78 at Ardrossan, beginning on the evening of Monday 28th April and concluding by 6am on Sunday 4th May 2025, weather permitting.
These works will improve the condition of the carriageway between Chapelhill and Sharphill Roundabouts at Ardrossan and involve a combination of full closures and contraflow traffic management to ensure safe and efficient delivery while maintaining road user safety.
Programme of works:
Monday 28th April (overnight, 8pm–6am):
Closure of the A78 southbound between Montfode Roundabout and Eglinton Interchange for regular maintenance. This closure will also facilitate resurfacing between Chapelhill Roundabout and Sharphill Roundabout.
Tuesday 29th April (overnight, 8pm–6am):
Closure of the A78 northbound between Eglinton Interchange and Montfode Roundabout for regular maintenance works and establishment of a contraflow system between Chapelhill Roundabout and Sharphill Roundabout.
Simultaneous closure of the A78 southbound between Montfode Roundabout and Sharphill Roundabout for continued resurfacing.
Wednesday 30th April, 6am – Saturday 3rd May, 8pm:
A contraflow system will be in place between Sharphill Roundabout and Pennyburn Roundabout, enabling works to continue safely.
Offside lane closure from Pennyburn Roundabout to Sharphill Roundabout.
Nearside lane closure from Montfode Roundabout to Chapelhill Roundabout.
Wednesday 30th April (overnight, 8pm–6am):
Closure of the A78 southbound from Montfode Roundabout to Sharphill Roundabout to complete resurfacing works outwith the contraflow zone.
Saturday 3rd May (overnight, 8pm–6am):
Closure of:
A78 southbound from Montfode Roundabout to Sharphill Roundabout.
A78 northbound from Pennyburn Roundabout to Chapelhill Roundabout to facilitate the safe removal of the contraflow system.
Works are scheduled to be complete by 6am on Sunday 4th May.
A78 through traffic will be diverted via the A738 through Ardrossan and Stevenston. Traffic from Busbie Road and Dalry Road will be able to access Chapelhill Roundabout during the closures and traffic from the B714 will be able to access Sharphill Roundabout.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
