Package of Essential Overnight Works on M8 Junctions 19 to 15

M8 junction 15 to junction 19
17th of March 2024, 10:00pm to 24th of May 2024, 6:00am

UPDATE: These works will pause during the Easter Weekend.

Eastbound works will stop on Thursday 28th March at 6am and recommence on Sunday 7th April at 10pm.

Westbound works will now have a later start date, beginning on Tuesday 2nd April at 10pm.

Works will then continue to follow the timeline outlined below.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking a package of essential overnight maintenance on the eastbound M8 between Junctions 19 and 15 and westbound M8 between Junctions 16 and 18, which will be carried out in multiple phases throughout 2024. Each set of overnight closures will alternate between carriageways and run Sunday to Friday only.

Eastbound Closures
Closures will start with Phase Two of the eastbound works which will take place between Sunday 17th March and Friday 10th May 2024 from 10pm until 6am, each night, excluding weekend nights.
This scheme is to enable the next phase of works of the M8 Woodside Viaducts.
Eastbound work will be carried out using overnight closures only, Sunday to Friday, on the following dates:

17th March – 22nd March
24th March – 29th March
7th April – 12th April
28th April – 3rd May
5th May – 10th May

Signed diversion routes will be in operation.

  • Eastbound M8 traffic will be directed off the M8 at Junction 18 (St George’s Road) onto St George’s Road, following to Garscube Road, onto Dobbie’s Loan, then back onto the M8 at Junction 16 (Craighall).
  • There will be eastbound slip road closures at Junctions 19 and 18 (Charing X), with traffic being directed to North Street and then St George’s Road to join the main diversion, as outlined above.

PLEASE NOTE: This diversion route will change for one night – 19th March to 20th March 2024 - due to the closure of the junction 18 off-slip. For this night, traffic will be directed off the Eastbound M8 at junction 19 (Bothwell), onto northbound Pitt Street. Traffic will then be diverted westbound onto St Vincent Street, following for northbound North Street. The diversion will then continue northbound onto St Georges Road and join the normal diversion southbound to Garscube Road for eastbound Dobbie's Loan and back on to the M8 junction 16 (Craighall).

Westbound Closure
Phase One of westbound works will then take place between Sunday 31st March and Friday 24th May 2024 from 10pm until 6am, each night, Sunday to Friday.

Westbound work will be carried out using overnight closures only, Sunday to Friday, on the following dates:
31st March – 5th April
14th April – 19th April
21st April – 26th April
12th May – 17th May
19th May – 24th May

Signed diversion routes will be in operation.

  • Traffic will exit the M8 at junction 16 (Craighall), following the diversion westbound to Dobbie's Loan. Traffic will then drive southbound on Garscube Road, approaching westbound West Graham Street before joining back onto the M8 westbound via junction 17 westbound on-slip.

Access for emergency service vehicles will not be maintained throughout these works.
Please plan your journey and allow extra time for travel through the signed diversion.
PLEASE NOTE: Vehicles entering the LEZ as part of the diversion must follow the diversion signage at all times. Any vehicles which deviate from the published diversion route may be issued with penalty charge notice(s) from Glasgow City Council should they be captured out with the agreed diversion route.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
