M9/M80 Junction 9 Bannockburn Southbound | Resurfacing

Bannockburn
13th of April 2026, 7:30pm to 18th of April 2026, 6:00am

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to resurface 1.8 kilometres of the southbound carriageway at M9/M80 Junction 9 (Bannockburn), in the first phase of a major programme of maintenance and improvement works on this part of the motorway network.

Overnight carriageway closures will be in place during these works for the safety of motorists and the workforce:

On the nights of 13, 14 and 15 April, the southbound carriageway of the M9 between Junctions 11 and 9 will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00. A signed diversion route will be in place from M9 Junction 11 (Keir Roundabout), via the A9, A90, and A91, to re-join the M9 or M80 at Junction 9. Traffic joining the M9 at Junction 10 will be diverted northbound to Junction 11 to turn and follow the same diversion route, adding approximately 15 minutes and 8.7 miles to affected journeys.

On the night of Thursday 16 April, the M9 will remain open however the M80 southbound will be closed from Junction 9 to Junction 8 and the M876 southbound will be closed at Junction 1. Southbound traffic wishing to join the M80 will be diverted from Junction 9 via the M9 and M876 eastbound to turn at Junction 3 (Bowtrees), returning westbound on the M876. From M876 Junction 1, traffic will be directed onto the B905 to Checkbar Roundabout, the A883 to Three Bridges Roundabout, the A803 to Bonnybridge and the B816 to M80 Junction 6. This diversion will add a total of approximately 21 minutes and 12.5 miles to affected journeys.

On the night of 17 April, the M80 southbound will be closed between the slip roads at Junction 9, with traffic diverted onto the roundabout at Stirling Services then immediately back on to the M80. This will add approximately 1 minute and 0.4 miles to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while resurfacing takes place.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion."

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
