M9 Southbound After Junction 1A | Resurfacing
The southbound carriageway of the M9 motorway between Junction 1A and the Newbridge off-slip will be closed for resurfacing between 20:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 18 May to Saturday 23 May.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works, renewing a total of 0.8 kilometres of surfacing across all four lanes to create smoother and safer journeys for motorists using this section of the motorway.
To minimise overall disruption to motorists, these works will be completed in three phases, using a combination of slip road and carriageway closures:
On the night of 18 May, one lane will remain open on the M9 southbound main carraigeway, however the M9 Junction 1A southbound on-slip from the M90 will be closed, as will the M9 Junction 1 off-slip to Newbridge Roundabout.
Traffic wishing to join the M9 southbound from the M90 will be diverted northbound on the M9 to turn at M9 Junction 1B and return southbound, adding approximately 5 minutes and 4.2 miles to affected journeys.
Traffic wishing to exit the M9 at Junction 1 will be directed onwards to join the M8 westbound at Junction 2, before turning at Junction 3 and returning eastbound on the M8 and then northbound on the M9 to exit at Newbridge Roundabout. This will add an estimated 12 minutes and 12 miles to affected journeys.
On the nights of 19 and 20 May, the M9 southbound main carriageway will be closed at Junction 1A, however the on-slip from the M90 will remain open.
Traffic on the M9 southbound will be diverted onto the M90 northbound to turn at M90 Junction 1A and then return southbound to re-join the M9. This will add approximately 11 minutes and 8.1 miles to affected journeys.
On the nights of 21, 22 and 23 May, the M9 southbound will be closed between Junction 2 and Junction 1.
A signed diversion route will be in place from M9 Junction 2 via the B8046 northbound, the A904 eastbound, the M90 and A90 eastbound, the A902 Maybury Road southbound, and the A8 Glasgow Road westbound to Newbridge Roundabout. This will add an estimated 13 minutes and 8.5 miles to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while resurfacing take place, however we will be keeping lanes open where possible and scheduling the works at night to minimise disruption.
“We appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding."
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
