M9 Northbound Between Junction 1 And 5 | Road Marking Improvements
The northbound carriageway of the M9 motorway between Junctions 1 and 5 will be closed for road marking improvements for nine nights beginning on Thursday 28 May.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works, renewing a total of 67.7 kilometres of road markings and studs to improve visibility and create safer journeys for motorists using this section of the motorway.
These works will be carried out under three separate road closures:
On the night of 28 May, the M9 northbound will be closed from Junction 1 to Junction 1A. A signed diversion route will be in place diverting traffic from M9 Junction 1 via the A8 eastbound (Glasgow Road), A902 (Maybury Rd), A90 eastbound (Queensferry Road), M90 Junction 1A, and A904, back to the M9 at Junction 2.
On the nights of 29 May and 1 to 5 June, the M9 northbound will be closed from Junction 1A to Junction 5. A signed diversion route will be in place directing affected motorists off at M9 Junction 1A, via the M90, A904, A993, A904 and A905, rejoining the M9 at Junction 5.
On the nights of 8 and 9 June, the M9 northbound will be closed from Junctions 4 to 5. A signed diversion route will be in place directing motorists off at M9 Junction 4, via the A803, B805, A9 northbound, and A904 (Falkirk Road), rejoining the M9 at Junction 6.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while these road marking improvements take place on the M9.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding."
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
