M9 Junctions 1-11 | Overnight Maintenance

A phased programme of overnight lane and carriageway closures will be in place on the M9 from the evening of 31 August until the morning of 15 October, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out a variety of routine maintenance tasks.

Works to be carried out include grass cutting, drainage cleaning, sign cleaning, detailed inspections and road sweeping.

Dates, locations and diversion routes for closures are listed below:

M9 northbound Junction 1-1A - 31 August (20:30-06:00)
Northbound carriageway closure

Diversion:
From M9 J1 via A8 Glasgow Rd then Maybury Rd to turn west at Barnton. Follow A90 to turn at M90 J1A Queensferry and return southbound to rejoin M9 northbound at J1A.

M9 Northbound Junction 1A-4 - 1-3 September (19:30-06:00)

Diversion:
Exit at J1A and follow M90 north to exit at J1A Queensferry then follow A904 west to Champany, turning right to continue on A904 Grahamsdyke Rd  through Boness to Wholeflats Rbt, rejoining the M9at  J5.

M9 northbound Junction 4-5 - 4 September (19:30-06:00)
Northbound carriageway closure

Diversion:
From M9 J4 follow A803 through Polmont to Mary Street Rbt. Take the third exit north to Bog Rbt, then A9 north to Westfield Rbt, taking third exit to travel along Falkirk Rd to M9 J6.

M9 northbound Junction 5-7 - 7 & 8 September (19:30-06:00)

Diversion:
Via A9 west over Bog Rbt, Westfield Rbt., Etna Rd Rbt and Merchiston Rbt, then north along B902 to Antonshill Rbt, the A88 Bellsdyke Rd to Bellsdyke Rbt. Take first exit north to Bowtrees Rbt, joining M876 westbound to M9 J7.

Diversion:
Join M876 southbound from M9 J8 to M876 J2, then A9 Stirling Rd north through Plean to Greencornhills Rbt. Take first exit south along A91 Pirnhall Rd to M9 J9.

M9 northbound Junction 9-10 - 15-17 September (19:30-06:00)

Diversion:
Follow A91 north to Millhall Rbt. Take first exit A905 West Springbank Rd to Craigs Rbt then Wellgreen Rbt, A811 Dumbarton Rd to Kings Knot Rbt and Raploch Rd to A84. From here access M9 J10.

M9 northbound Junction 10-11 - 18 & 19 September (19:30-06:00)

Diversion:
From J10 east along Drip Rd to Customs Rbt. Take first exit and follow A9 through Bridge of Allan to M9 J11.

M9 southbound Junction 11-10 - 22 & 23 September (19:30-06:00)

South along A9, through Bridge of Allan to Causewayhead Rbt. Take third exit A9 to Customs Rbt, then Drip Rd west to M9 J10.

From M9 J10 south along A84 to Back O' Hill Rd then east to Laurencroft Rbt, A9 Burghmuir Rd south through Stirling to Craigs Rbt, east along A905 to Millhall Rbt. Take third exit south along A91 to M9 J9.

M9 southbound Junction 9-8 - 28-30 September (19:30-06:00)

Diversion:
Follow A91 north to Millhall Rbt. third exit to A9 Falkirk Rd and travel south through Plean to M876 J2.

Diversion:
Follow M876 northbound to J3 Bowtrees. Traffic coming from M876 southbound diverted to M876 J2 and return. From M876 J3, follow A905 south to Bellsdyke Rbt, A88 west to Antonshill Rbt and B902 south to Merchiston Rbt. Take first exit eastbound along A9 to Westfield Rbt then Bog Rbt, continuing east to M9 J5.

M9 Southbound Junction 6-5 - 6 October (19:30-06:00)

Via A905 south to Earl's Gate Rbt, A904 west to Westfield Rbt, and A9 south to Bog Rbt, continuing to M9 J5.

From J5 travel north to Wholeflats Rbt then A905 east to Dean Rd through Boness. Turn left at Champany and continue along A904 to M90 J1A Queensferry, following M90 south to M9 J1A.

M9 southbound Junction 1A-1 and M90 Southbound Closed at Junction 1 Scotstoun - 14 October (20:30-06:00)

Diversion:
From M9 Junction 1A via M90 northbound to turn at Junction 1A Queensferry and return southbound on the M90, then form Scotstoun the A90 eastbound towards Edinburgh. Turning south onto A902 Maybury Rd then west along A8 Glasgow Rd to M9 J1 Newbridge.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “We’ll be taking advantage of these overnight closures on the M9 to carry out as many routine maintenance tasks as possible, reducing the overall need for closures and traffic management.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway while work is taking place. Our advice if you need to use the M9 at night during this period is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.
