M9 Junction 1 | Bridge Repairs
Overnight works to replace damaged bridge joints on the bridge carrying the M9 over the River Almond between Junction 1A and 1 are set to continue on the nights of Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September, with closures of the slip road from the M9 southbound to Newbridge Roundabout between 20:30 and 06:00 each night.
A diversion route for traffic wishing to exit the motorway onto Newbridge Roundabout will be in place via the M9 southbound and M8 eastbound to turn at Hermiston Gait Interchange and return via the M8 westbound and M9 northbound. This will add approximately 12 minutes and 9.9 miles to affected journeys.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This programme of repair is key to ensuring the structural integrity of this bridge.
“The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible, however overnight closures of the slip road are necessary for the safety of the workforce and motorists while work is taking place.”

All works are dependent on the weather and the existing condition of the structure, which can’t be fully understood until works commence and intrusive investigations are carried out. As such, the programme of works is subject to postponement, cancellation or rearrangement of dates in the event of adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
