M8/A720 Hermiston Gait Interchange | Street Lighting Upgrade Works

Hermiston Gait Interchange
13th of July 2026, 8:00pm to 16th of October 2026, 4:30am

Overnight carriageway and slip road closures will be in place at Hermiston Gait Interchange on the M8 and A720 on Monday to Friday nights during eight weeks between 13 July and 16 October.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out street lighting upgrade works, including the installation of new streetlighting columns and LED lights.

Dates, locations and diversion routes for closures are listed in the table below:

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close these flyovers and slip roads while streetlighting upgrade works take place.

“There are alternative routes available nearby and we’ll do this at night to minimise the impact, so we do not expect these works to cause significant disruption.

“Our advice if you need to travel via Hermiston Gait at night during this period is to check whether closures will be in place and allow a few extra minutes for your journey if necessary.

“We’re grateful to road users for their understanding.”
