M876 Between Junctions 7 and 3 | Bridge Inspections
Works to inspect a bridge carrying the local road ‘Letham Cottages’ over the M876 motorway northeast of Stenhousemuir are set to take place on the nights of Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project
For the safety of workers and road users during these works, the motorway underneath the bridge will be closed in one direction each night:
- The eastbound M876 will be closed from M9 Junction 7 to M876 Junction 3 between 20:00 and 06:00 on the night of Monday 24 August.
- The westbound M876 will then be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 on the night of Tuesday 25 August.
Diversion routes suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted as follows:
- On the night of 24 August, traffic wishing to join the M876 eastbound from the M9 southbound will be diverted from M9 Junction 9 to M876 Junction 3 via the A91, A9, A88 and A905. This diversion will add an estimated 3 miles and 12 minutes to affected journeys.
- On the night of 25 August, traffic on the M876 westbound will be diverted along the same route in reverse.
- Traffic on the M9 northbound wishing to join the M876 eastbound on the night of 24 August will be directed to continue north to exit at M9 Junction 8, following the M876 westbound to exit at Junction 2 and then following the A88 and A905 to M876 Junction 3. This will add an estimated 6 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys
- Traffic on the M876 eastbound wishing to continue to Junction 3 will also be directed to exit at Junction 2 and follow the A88 and A905, adding 1 mile and 5 minutes onto affected journeys.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This programme of inspections is key to ensuring the structural integrity of this bridge and facilitating the design of a maintenance scheme that is required to extend its service life.
“The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible, however some carriageway closures are unavoidable. These will be limited to overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding.”
