M80 Southbound |Bridge Parapet Repair
Overnight works are set to take place on the M80 nights of 24 to 29 April, to replace a damaged parapet on the southbound carriageway of a bridge carrying the motorway near Dunipace.
Southbound carriageway closures will be in place on the M80 between Junctions 9 and 8 on the nights of 24 and 29 April, in addition to northbound closures between Junctions 6 and 9 that will already be in place for other works.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project between 22:00 and 06:00 each night, with a signed diversion route for southbound traffic in place via the M9 and M876, adding an estimated 15.5 miles and 17 minutes to affected journeys.
On the nights of 25 to 28 April, single lane closures will be in place on the motorway. Continuous hard shoulder closures have been in place since 12 March to provide a temporary barrier.
These repairs will be taking place during a major programme of maintenance and improvement on the M80 from April to July. The full programme of planned traffic restrictions can be viewed at www.bearscot.com/M80works.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Bridges Manager, said: “These works on the M80 near Dunipace will replace a damaged bridge parapet that was struck by a vehicle.
“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ll do this overnight to minimise disruption.
“We appreciate that there is a significant volume of works taking place on the M80 over the next few months. Our advice to motorists is to plan ahead and take account of scheduled restrictions.”
