M80 | Road Marking Improvements

Overnight carriageway closures for road marking improvements will be in place on the M80 motorway between Junctions 7 and 9 for ten nights beginning on Monday 24 August.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works, renewing a total of 22.8 kilometres of road markings and studs to improve visibility and create safer journeys for motorists using this section of the motorway.

• On the night of 24 August between 19:30 and 06:00, the M80 northbound will be closed from Junction 7 to Junction 9. A signed diversion route will be in place directing motorists to leave the M80 at Junction 7 and travel to Dennyloanhead via the A803. From here the diversion will split, with M80 traffic wishing to head north following the A872 towards M9 Junction 9. Traffic wishing to travel east and join the M876 will be directed via the A803 and A883 before joining the M876 at Junction 1.
   
• On the nights of 25, 26, 27 and 28 August between 19:30 and 06:00, the M80 northbound will be closed from Junctions 8 to 9. A signed diversion route will be in place via the M876 northbound to Junction 3 (Bowtrees), where they will turn and head towards the M9 to travel northbound to Junction 9.
   
• On the nights of 31 August to 3 September between 19:30 and 06:00, the M80 southbound will be closed from Junction 9 to Junction 8. A signed diversion route will be in place via the M9 southbound, leaving the M9 at Junction 7 to travel towards M876 Junction 3. From here, traffic will be directed to turn and head westbound on the M876 towards the M80.
   
• On the night of 4 September between 19:30 and 06:00, the M80 southbound will be closed from Junction 9 to Junction 7. A signed diversion route will be in place directing affected traffic from the M9 southbound to leave the M9 at Junction 9 and travel along the A872 and A803 before returning to the M80 at Junction 7. Traffic from the M876 will exit at Junction 1 and follow the A883 and A803 to rejoin the M80 at Junction 7.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while road marking improvements take place.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding."

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
