M8 Westbound Junction 2 | Streetlighting Upgrades

M8
23rd of March 2026, 8:00pm to 4th of April 2026, 4:30am

Overnight closures of the M8 westbound carriageway will be in place on the nights of 23 March to 4 April, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to upgrade streetlighting.

Between 20:00 and 04:30 on these nights, westbound traffic on the M8 will be diverted onto the M9, to turn at Newbridge Roundabout then return southbound to rejoin the M8. This will add approximately 2 miles and 4 minutes to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Network Manager, said: “These electrical and civil engineering works will improve lighting and safety for motorists on the M8.

“Carriageway closures are necessary to carry out these works as safely and efficiently as possible.

“If you need to use this route, our advice is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for the diversion.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding.”

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
