M8 Westbound Between Junctions 15 - 16 | Resurfacing
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the M8 westbound, including the on and off slips, between Junctions 15 (Townhead) and 16 (Dobbie’s Loan) from Saturday 24th January until Saturday 31st January 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
This work will be carried out in three phases as follows:
Phase 1 – Saturday 24th January and Sunday 25th January
Overnight closures of the westbound Junction 16 off slip, as well as a single lane closure on the westbound M8 approach to Junction 16, will be in operation between 8pm and 6am on Saturday 24th January and Sunday 25th January. Traffic will be directed to follow the M8 Junction 15 off slip to Springburn Road/Stirling Road and follow Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street and Dobbie’s Loan, where this diversion will end. Expected delays are 5 minutes and additional 0.5 miles travel distance.
On Saturday 24th January and Sunday 25th January, daytime lane closures will be in operation on the Junction 16 off-slip between the hours of 6am and 8pm each day. Traffic wishing to access Canal Street and Dobbie’s Loan southbound will be diverted west on Dobbie’s Loan to follow Garscube Road, Cowcaddens Road and North Hanover Street to return to Dobbie’s Loan. Expected delays are 6 minutes and additional 1.3 miles travel distance.
Phase 2 – Monday 26th January and Tuesday 27th January
Overnight closures of the M8 westbound between the Junction 15 off slip (Springburn Road) and the Junction 17 off slip (Great Western Road/West Graham Street) will be in operation between 8pm and 6am on Monday 26th January and Tuesday 27th January. During this time, the Junction 15 westbound on and off slips at Castle Street will also be closed.
Traffic will be diverted at Junction 15 to Springburn Road and follow Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street, Killermont Street, West Nile St, Cowcaddens Road and West Graham Street to rejoin the M8 westbound at the Junction 17 on slip. Expected delays are 5 minutes and additional 0.4 miles travel distance.
During this time, a total closure of the M80 southbound Junction 1 off slip to the M8 westbound will also be in operation. Traffic will be diverted to take the M80 southbound Junction 1 off slip to join the M8 eastbound at Junction 13 and continue to M8 Junction 12. At M8 Junction 12, traffic will exit the M8 eastbound and join the M8 westbound. Expected delays are 3 minutes and additional 1.3 miles travel distance.
On Monday 26th January and Tuesday 27th January, daytime lane closures will be in operation on the Junction 16 off-slip between the hours of 6am and 8pm each day. Traffic wishing to access Canal Street and Dobbie’s Loan southbound will be diverted west on Dobbie’s Loan to follow Garscube Road, Cowcaddens Road and North Hanover Street to return to Dobbie’s Loan. Expected delays are 6 minutes and additional 1.3 miles travel distance.
Phase 3 – Wednesday 28th January until Friday 30th January
Overnight closures of the M8 westbound between the Junction 15 off slip (Springburn Road) and the Junction 17 off slip (Great Western Road/West Graham Street) will be in operation from Wednesday 28th January to Friday 30th January between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. During this time, the Junction 15 westbound on and off slips at Castle Street will also be closed.
Traffic will be diverted at Junction 15 to Springburn Road and follow Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street, Killermont Street, West Nile St, Cowcaddens Road and West Graham Street to rejoin the M8 westbound at the Junction 17 on slip. Expected delays are 5 minutes and additional 0.4 miles travel distance.
During this time, a total closure of the M80 southbound Junction 1 off slip to the M8 westbound will also be closed. Traffic will be diverted to take the M80 southbound Junction 1 off slip to join the M8 eastbound at Junction 13 and continue to M8 Junction 12. At M8 Junction 12, traffic will exit the M8 eastbound and join the M8 westbound. Expected delays are 3 minutes and additional 1.3 miles travel distance.
On Wednesday 28th January and Thursday 29th January, overnight lane closures will be in operation on Springburn Road between 8pm and 6am each night. On Friday 30th January, Springburn Road will be closed northbound between St James Road and the Baird Street on slip, including Glebe Street, between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Traffic will diverted via Cathedral Street, Castle Street and Baird Street. Expected delays are 3 minutes and additional 0.3 miles travel distance. Traffic wishing to join the M8 eastbound will follow this diversion and join the M8 eastbound at the Junction 15 Castle Street on slip.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
