M8 Westbound between Junction 8 and Junction 10 | Gantry Removal and Refurbishment Works
Road users are advised that the M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 8 Baillieston and Junction 10 Easterhouse (Glasgow Fort) will be closed for three consecutive nights for overhead gantry removal and refurbishment works, between 8pm and 6am the following day, as follows:
• Friday 28 November, Saturday 29 November & Sunday 30 November (3 nights).
As a result, the following link and slip roads will also be closed:
• M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip from A8/A89 Coatbridge Road
• M73 northbound link road to M8 westbound at Baillieston Interchange (low loop)
• M8 westbound Junction 9 Springhill/Easterhouse on slip road
• M8 westbound Junction 10 Easterhouse (Glasgow Fort) off slip road
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:
Diversion 1 – For M8 westbound mainline closure via M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8 westbound Edinburgh Road, continue A8 westbound Edinburgh Road, B765 Stepps Road, M8 westbound Junction 11 Stepps on slip road and follow permanent signage for Glasgow/ Airport & Greenock.
Diversion 2- For M73 northbound Link Road to M8 westbound to Glasgow closure take M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston off slip for Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) westbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout and follow Diversion 1 above.
Diversion 3 – For M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip closure and Glasgow, take A8 Coatbridge Road to Swinton roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 westbound Edinburgh Road and follow Diversion 1 above.
Diversion 4 – For M8 westbound Junction 9 Springhill/Easterhouse closure, take Springhill Parkway, Springcroft Road, Easterhouse Road, A8 westbound Edinburgh Road and follow Diversion 1 above.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained.
The diversion route will add an estimated 0.5 mile and 4 minutes to affected journeys on the M8 via local roads.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Glasgow City Council, Amey South West Unit and the emergency services.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
