M8 at St James' Viaduct | Essential Maintenance Works

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, continues to undertake essential maintenance on the M8 at St James’ Viaduct, Junction 28A –A737 link. The next phase of works includes the replacement of the bridge expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway, which requires the following traffic management to facilitate:

Overnight Closures

Overnight closures (10pm – 6am) will be in place at this location, each night, from Thursday 6th August until Friday 28th August 2026 with a signed diversion in place.
Traffic will be diverted onto the A737 off slip to the St James’ Interchange, from here traffic will join the M8 via the Junction 29 eastbound on-slip road and the diversion will end.

Total Weekend Closure

A total weekend closure will be in place at this location from 10pm on Friday 21st August until 6am on Monday 24th August 2026 and traffic will follow the above signed diversion during this period.

The current 30mph temporary speed restriction will be removed following completion of this maintenance.  

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works with the expectation of the weekend closure from 10pm on Friday 21st August until 6am on Monday 24th August 2026.
