M8 Newhouse and Eurocentral | Overnight Closures
Road users are advised that the M8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 7 Eurocentral will be closed for ten overnights, commencing Monday 25 August 2025, for essential bridge joint replacement works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.
The works will take place in two phases as follows:
Phase 1:
The M8 eastbound carriageway between Junction 6A Chapelhall and Junction 6 Newhouse will be closed overnight for five consecutive nights, from 8pm to 6am the following morning, as detailed below:
- Monday 25 August to Friday 29 August (5 nights)
As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
- M8 eastbound Link Road to the M8 eastbound at Junction 6 Newhouse
A signed diversion routes will be in place via M8 eastbound Junction 6A Chapelhall off slip road, take 2nd exit at Chapelhall Junction North roundabout for A8 eastbound Edinburgh (M8), continue A8 eastbound to merge with M8 eastbound at Newhouse Junction for Edinburgh.
Phase 2:
The M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 7 Eurocentral , will be closed for five consecutive nights, between 8pm and 6 am the following day, as detailed below:
- Monday 01 September to Friday 05 September (5 nights)
As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
- M8 westbound Junction 6A Chapelhall on slip road
A signed diversion route will be in place via M8 westbound link road to A8 westbound for Eurocentral & Coatbridge, continue A8 westbound to Chapelhall Junction South roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 westbound for Eurocentral & Coatbridge, continue A8 westbound to Eurocentral Junction South roundabout, take 4th exit to return to M8 westbound at Junction 7 Eurocentral for Glasgow.
The diversion routes will add an estimated 0.25 mile and 1 minute to affected journeys.
These overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one direction of the M8 carriageway, eastbound or westbound, is closed at any given time.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling on these evenings to check their route.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst bridge joint replacement works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland and the emergency services.
