M8 Junction 6-8 | Inspection Works

Road users are advised that the M8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 8 Baillieston will be closed for two consecutive overnights, commencing Monday  09 June 2025, for bridge, gantry and high mast lighting inspection works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The works will take place in two phases as follows:

Phase 1: 
The M8 eastbound carriageway between Junction 8 Baillieston and Junction 6 Newhouse will be closed overnight for one night, from 8pm to 6am the following morning, as detailed below:

•    Monday 09 June (1 night)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

•    M8 eastbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road from Baillieston roundabout (A8 & M73)
•    M8 eastbound Junction 7A Shawhead on slip road from A725 northbound
•    M8 eastbound Junction 7 Eurocentral Junction off slip road
•    M8 eastbound Junction 6A Chapelhall off slip road

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:
Diversion 1 – M8 eastbound closure at Junction 8 Baillieston via M8 eastbound Junction 8 off slip road for A8 Coatbridge, take 2nd exit at roundabout and continue to follow permanent signage on A8 eastbound for M8 Edinburgh/ Eurocentral/ Chapelhall/ Newhouse  (A73) for Airdrie/ Motherwell/ Wishaw/ Lanark.
Diversion 2 – M8 eastbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road closure at Baillieston roundabout from the M73 or A8 via A8(M) westbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 Coatbridge Road and follow permanent signage for M8 Edinburgh/ Eurocentral / Chapelhall / Newhouse  (A73) for Airdrie/ Motherwell/ Wishaw/ Lanark.
Diversion 3 – M8 eastbound Junction 7A Shawhead on slip road closure from A725 northbound via A725 northbound, A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction on slip road and follow permanent signage for Edinburgh/ Eurocentral/ Chapelhall/ Newhouse (A73) for Airdrie/Motherwell/Wishaw/Lanark.

Phase 2: 
The M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 8 Baillieston, will be closed for one night, between 8pm and 6 am the following day, as detailed below:

•    Tuesday 10 June (1 night)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
•    M8 westbound Junction 6A Chapelhall on slip road
•    M8 westbound Junction 7 Eurocentral on slip road
•    M8 westbound Junction 7A Shawhead off slip road to A725 southbound.
•    M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout for M73 & A8

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:

Diversion 1 – M8 westbound closure at Junction 6 Newhouse via A8 westbound for Eurocentral & Coatbridge, continue A8 westbound to Chapelhall Junction South roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 westbound Eurocentral & Coatbridge, at  Eurocentral South roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound Coatbridge and follow permanent signage for Coatbridge/ Bellshill/ East Kilbride/ Carlisle (M74) or continue A8 westbound for Glasgow (M8) or Gartcosh/ Uddingston (Showcase),  at A8 Bargeddie roundabout follow permanent signage for M8 Glasgow at Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road or take A8 westbound to Swinton roundabout and take 1st exit to follow permanent signage for Stirling (M73), Carlisle (M74) & Glasgow Airport

Diversion 2 – M8 westbound Junction 6A Chapelhall on slip road closure via A8 westbound to Eurocentral Junction South roundabout and follow Diversion 1 above.

Diversion 3 – M8 westbound Junction 7 Eurocentral on slip road closure via A8 westbound for Coatbridge follow permanent signage for Coatbridge/ Bellshill/ East Kilbride/ Carlisle (M74) or continue A8 westbound for Glasgow (M8) and follow diversion 1 above for Stirling (M73) & Glasgow Airport

Diversion 4 – M8 westbound Junction 7A Shawhead off slip road for A725 southbound closure via A8 westbound to Chapelhall Junction South roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 westbound to Eurocentral South roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound Coatbridge and follow permanent signage for Coatbridge/ Bellshill/ East Kilbride/ Carlisle (M74).

The diversion routes will add an estimated 1.3 miles and 3 minutes to affected journeys.  

These overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one direction of the M8 carriageway, eastbound or westbound, is closed at any given time.  
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling on these evenings to check their route. 
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst bridge inspections are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.

Access through the works will be maintained for Emergency Service vehicles. Please be aware of Mobile Elevated Platform vehicles (MEWP) and road works on the carriageway. 
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland and the emergency services.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
