M8 Junction 4A Eastbound On-Slip | Investigation Works

Whitburn
28th of October 2026, 8:30pm to 30th of October 2026, 6:00am

The slip road onto the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway at Junction 4A, near Whitburn, will be closed between 20:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 28 and 29 October to allow for investigation works in advance of future resurfacing.

The project will be carried out by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, and will involve investigating 850 metres of carriageway of the slip road surface.

During this period, a signed diversion route will be in place. Traffic wishing to join the M8 eastbound at Junction 4A will be directed to follow the M8 westbound to turn at Junction 5 and return via the M8 eastbound. This will add an estimated 8.9 miles and 11 minutes to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said "A full closure of the slip road is essential to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce during these investigation works.

"We’ll do this overnight to minimise disruption, however we understand this may still cause inconvenience for some road users. We thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
