M8 Junction 2 Westbound Off-slip | Upgrading Streetlighting

8th of December 2025, 8:00pm to 19th of December 2025, 4:30am

The slip road from the M8 westbound onto the M9 northbound at M8 Junction 2 (Claylands) will be closed between 20:00 and 04:30 on the nights of 8 to 19 December, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to upgrade streetlighting.

Traffic wishing to join the northbound M9 will be directed to continue westbound to turn at Junction 3 (Livingston) and return on the M8 eastbound to exit via the Junction 2 eastbound off-slip. This diversion will add approximately 10.3 miles and 14 minutes to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Network Manager, said: “These electrical and civil engineering works will improve lighting and safety for motorists using this junction.

“Slip road closures are required for the safety of road users and our workforce. If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding while we make these improvements.”

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
