M8 Hillington Interchange | Concluding Works

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, continues to undertake major bridge refurbishments on the M8 at Junction 26 (Hillington Interchange). 
 

The project is now in its fifth and final phase, scheduled to complete by Sunday 31st May 2026. Concluding works for the project will commence from Monday 11th May 2026. 
 

From Monday 11th May 2026, there will be an ongoing removal of the M8 mainline eastbound and westbound contraflows between Junction 27 and Junction 24 until the morning of Friday 15th May 2026. The 40mph speed limit will also cease once the contraflow has been removed by Friday 15th May 2026.
 

The programme of traffic management until project completion is as follows: 
 

Monday 11th May and Tuesday 12th May 2026:
WESTBOUND
M8 WB J24 On-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Exit at M8 J24, turn left onto Helen Street, turn right onto the A761 Paisley Road West, turn right on to Sandwood Road and re-join M8 WB at J26 on-slip where diversion ends. 
 

M8 WB J25 On-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Continue to the slip road to Berryknowes Road, turn right on to the A761 Paisley Road West, turn right on to Sandwood Road, and re-join the M8 via the J26 WB on-slip where diversion ends. 
 

M8 WB J26 Off-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Exit the M8 at J24, turn left onto Helen Street, turn right onto A761 Paisley Road West, right on to Sandwood Road, re-join the M8 via the J26 WB on-slip where diversion ends. 
 

M8 WB J23 Secondary Carriageway: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Exit via the M8 J23, turn right onto Dumbreck Road then left onto A761 Paisley Road West, turn right on to Sandwood Road, and re-join the M8 via the J26 WB on-slip where diversion ends.
 

Lane Closures: Overnight (8pm – 6am)
Lane closures will also be in place on the M8 westbound between Junctions 22 and 24 as well as on the M74 northbound to the M8 at Junction 23 offside lanes.

Diversion: Exit at J26 on to Hillington Road northbound, take the third exit at the roundabout onto Renfrew Road, at the next roundabout take the third exit onto Shieldhall Road, and at the following roundabout take the second exit to continue on Shieldhall Road / Edmiston Drive. From here, turn right onto Helen Street and re-join the M8 via the J24 EB on-slip where diversion ends.
 

M8 EB J25 Off-Slip to Clyde Tunnel: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Exit at J26 on to Hillington Road northbound, take the third exit at the roundabout on to Renfrew Road, at the next roundabout take the third exit onto Shieldhall Road, and at the following roundabout take the first exit to the A739 where diversion ends.
 

M8 EB J25 On-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Continue on the A739 to Cardonald Interchange and take a left onto the Berryknowes slip toad, take a further left onto Paisley Road West, turn left on to Helen Street, and re-join the M8 via the J24 EB on-slip where diversion ends. 
 

M8 EB J24 Off-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Exit at J26 on to Hillington Road northbound, take the third exit at the roundabout on to Renfrew Road, at the next roundabout take the third exit onto Shieldhall Road, and at the following roundabout take the second exit to Shieldhall Road / Edmiston Drive. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the A8 Glasgow Road, at the following roundabout taike the second exit onto Renfrew Road, at the next roundabout take the third exit onto Shieldhall Road, then at the final roundabout take the second exit to Shieldhall Road / Edmiston Drive. From here, turn right onto Helen Street and re-join the M8 via the J24 EB on-slip where diversion ends.

Diversion: From Arkleston Road traffic will take the second exit onto the A741 Paisley Road, traffic will continue on and turn right onto Glebe Street. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the A8 Glasgow Road, at the following roundabout taike the second exit onto Renfrew Road, at the next roundabout take the third exit onto Shieldhall Road, then at the final roundabout take the second exit to Shieldhall Road / Edmiston Drive. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the A8 Glasgow Road, at the following roundabout take the first exit onto Kings Inch Road, and turn right at traffic lights where diversion ends.
 

Monday 18th May 2026:
EASTBOUND

There will also be lane closures on the M8 westbound mainline between Junctions 25 and 26.

Sunday 24th May – Friday 29th May 2026: 
WESTBOUND
M8 WB J25A Off-Slip: Overnight Total Closure (8pm – 6am)
Diversion: Continue travel on the M8 westbound to exit via the M8 J26 off-slip and at the roundabout take the third exit onto Hillington Road and at the following roundabout take the second exit onto Kings Inch Road, and turn right at traffic lights where diversion ends.
Recovery vehicles will be on-site.
 

Retail outlets in the Hillington area, including Braehead Shopping Centre, will be operating as normal with trading hour details available from their associated websites and social media channels. Any road closures required have been planned with a later start time to mitigate disruption to shoppers.
 

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
 

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Renfrewshire Council, Glasgow City Council, West Dunbartonshire Council, and Braehead Shopping Centre.
 

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

Various road network improvements are taking place across the M8 corridor through Glasgow and these should be considered in any journey planning.
