M8 Eastbound Between Junctions 1 & 2 | Resurfacing
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is to carry out essential resurfacing works on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 between Junctions 2 and 1 over five nights, beginning on the night of Monday 8 June and finishing on the night of Friday 12 June.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users during these works, it will be necessary to close the eastbound carriageway of the M8 from Junction 2 between 20:30 and 06:00 each night.
A signed diversion route will be in place from M8 Junction 2 to Hermiston Gait, via the M9 northbound to Newbridge Roundabout, the A8 eastbound to Gogar Roundabout, and the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound. This diversion will add approximately 1.1 miles and 6 minutes to journey times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M8, while making use of sustainable techniques to minimise the environmental impact of the works.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption as far possible. If you need to use this route during overnight carriageway closures, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.”
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times, and all traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
