M8 Duntilland Eastbound | Resurfacing Works

M8 Prior to Junction 5 - Shotts
30th of April 2026, 8:30pm to 5th of May 2026, 6:00am

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to resurface 2 kilometres of the eastbound hard shoulder at M8 Duntilland, prior to Junction 5, Shotts, for maintenance and improvement works on this part of the motorway network.

Overnight carriageway closures will be in place between 8.30pm and 6am on the nights of Thursday 30 April, Friday 1 May and Monday 4 May during these works for the safety of motorists and the workforce.

A signed diversion will be in place:

Eastbound M8 (from J7 Glasgow):

Exit at J6A (Chapelhall), join A8 to Newhouse. At roundabout, take third exit onto A73 (Bellside Road). At next roundabout, take first exit onto B7066, then left onto B7057. Follow B7057 to rejoin M8 eastbound.

Eastbound M8 (from J6 Newhouse):

From Newhouse roundabout, take second exit onto A73 (Bellside Road). At next roundabout, take first exit onto B7066, then left onto B7057. Follow B7057 to rejoin M8 eastbound.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while resurfacing takes place.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion."

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
