Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential overnight parapet repairs and cope replacements on the M8 Charing Cross footbridge from Monday 13th May until Sunday 2nd June, between the hours of 8pm and 6am, every Monday to Friday night.

The work will be carried out using a combination of overnight lane closures and overnight road closures.

Traffic Management

Week Commencing Monday 13th May: North Street will be closed for vehicles travelling towards Saint George's Street and Woodlands Road and access to westbound M8 from North Street will remain open.

The diversion will operate as follows: traffic will continue along Sauchiehall Street and follow Rose Street, Renfrew Street, Hope Street, Cowcaddens Road, Garscube Road and St George's Road.

Week Commencing Monday 20th May: The M8 eastbound on-slip at North Street will be closed and all streets directly accessing Charing Cross foot bridge area will have lane closures in place.

The diversion will operate as follows: Traffic will continue along North Street and follow St George's Road, Garscube Road, Dobbie’s Loan and Craighall Road, where it will be able to join the M8 eastbound via the on-slip.

Week Commencing Monday 27th May: The M8 westbound Junction 18 off-slip, as well as the access to A804 from the loop-link under Great Western Road will be closed.

Traffic wishing to use the Junction 18 off-slip will be directed to stay on M8 westbound and take the Junction 19 off-slip. Traffic will then follow Argyle Street and North Street, where this diversion will end.
Great Western Road traffic will be directed to continue to West Graham Street and follow Garscube Road and St George's Road, where this diversion will end.
Traffic from Great Western can access M8 westbound as normal.
There will also be overnight lane closures on Woodlands Road and St George's Road.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit pedestrians using this route each day, by improving the condition of the footbridge and ensuring the continued safety of pedestrians and other road users.
