M8 Between Junction 3A And 4 | Bridge Works
A series of overnight closures of the M8 westbound carriageway between Junctions 3A and 4 is planned, as part of the ongoing major project to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 local road over the motorway between Bathgate and Blackburn.
The first overnight closure will take place on the night of Wednesday 18 February between 20:00 and 06:00. Further overnight closures are anticipated from 14 March to 22 March, also between 20:00 and 06:00 each night.
During these closures, a diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from M8 Junction 3A to M8 Junction 4, via the A779, A7066, and the A801, adding an estimated 1.1 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This bridge over the M8 is being refurbished to ensure it can continue to provide safe and reliable service for decades to come.
“Works are now required below the bridge, therefore overnight carriageway closures are necessary for the safety of workers and road users.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works.”
All works are dependent on the weather and the existing condition of the structure, which can’t be fully understood until works commence and intrusive investigations are carried out. As such, the programme of works is subject to postponement, cancellation or rearrangement of dates in the event of adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
