M74 Southbound at Rutherglen | Essential Resurfacing

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the southbound M74 between Junctions 2 and 2A, at Rutherglen, from Tuesday 5th May until Thursday 7th May 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.

This work will require overnight carriageway closures of the southbound M74 between Junctions 2 and 2A, as well as the southbound Junction 2 and 2A on slips and the Junction 2A off slip. 

  • Traffic intending to travel on the southbound M74 will be directed to exit at Junction 2 and follow A724 Cambuslang Road, Bridge Street, continue through the roundabouts and re-join the southbound M74 at Junction 3 (Carmyle).
  • HGVs will be directed to use a different diversion due to a low bridge. They will be directed to exit at Junction 2 and follow A724 Cambuslang Road, Farmeloan Road, Main Street, A724 Cambuslang Road, Bridge Street, continue through the roundabouts and re-join the southbound M74 at Junction 3 (Carmyle).
  • Traffic intending to use the southbound Junction 2 on slip will be diverted via the A724 Cambuslang Road, Bridge Street, continue through the roundabouts and join the southbound M74 at Junction 3 (Carmyle).

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
