13th of July 2026, 8:00pm to 20th of July 2026, 6:00am

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the southbound M74 between Junctions 6 and 7 from Monday 13th July until Sunday 19th July 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Monday 20th July 2026.

This work will require overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between the Junction 6 off slip and the Junction 7 on slip, as well as closures of the Junction 6 on slips (Hamilton and Motherwell) and Junction 7 off slip. Signed diversions will be in operation.

Traffic travelling on the southbound M74 will be directed to exit the M74 southbound at Junction 6 (Hamilton) and follow the A723 Motherwell Road, Palace Grounds Roundabout, Blackswell Lane, A72 Townhead Street, Carlisle Road, Cornsilloch Roundabout and the A71 Ayr Road to re-join the M74 at Junction 8 (Canderside).

Traffic wishing to use the M74 Junction 6 on slip (Motherwell) will be directed to continue on the A723 Motherwell Road and follow the above diversion.

Traffic wishing to use the M74 Junction 6 on slip (Hamilton) will be diverted at Palace Grounds Roundabout to follow the above diversion route.

Traffic wishing to use the Junction 7 off slip will be directed to exit the southbound M74 at Junction 6 and follow the above diversion to Carlisle Road.

Additionally, single lane closures will be in operation on the southbound M74 between Junctions 5 and 6.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway in this location.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
