M74 Southbound Between Junction 2A Cambuslang and Junction 5 Raith | Essential Cyclic Maintenance

M74 Southbound Junction 2A to Junction 5
18th of November 2025, 11:00pm to 20th of November 2025, 6:00am

Road users are advised that the M74 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight for 2 consecutive nights as detailed below from Tuesday 18 November 2025 for essential cyclic maintenance and road surface patching works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 2A Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) and Junction 5 Raith (A725) will be closed overnight for 2 consecutive nights, from 8pm on the days below to 6am the following day:
•    Tuesday 18 November - Work starts at 11pm due to Major event at Hampden Park (1 night) 
•    Wednesday 19 November (1 night)


As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:
•    M74 southbound Junction 2A Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) on slip road
•    M74 southbound Junction 3 Carmyle on slip road
•    M74 southbound Junction 3A Daldowie off slip road
•    M74 southbound link road to M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville
•    M73 southbound link road to M74 southbound at Junction 1 Maryville
•    M74 southbound on slip road from Glasgow Road Uddingston (A721)
•    M74 southbound off slip road to Bothwell Motorway Services
•    M74 southbound on slip road from Bothwell Motorway Services
•    M74 southbound J5 Raith off slip road to Raith roundabout (A725)


The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential cyclic maintenance and road surface patching works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am the following day.
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:


Main Diversion 1 - For M74 southbound closure at Junction 2A Cambuslang via M74 southbound J2A Cambuslang/Tollcross, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue (avoiding Low railway bridge - 4.8m/15ft 9’’), A89 eastbound  Glasgow Road, continue A89 Main Street Baillieston, A8 eastbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, 2nd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge, continue A8 eastbound for Shawhead Junction off slip road (A725), continue A725 southbound to Raith Junction roundabout and follow permanent signage for M74 North & South, Strathclyde Country Park, Bothwell & Hamilton areas. 


Diversion 2 – For M74 southbound closure at Junction 3 Carmyle on slip road via A763 Carmyle Avenue onto A74 southbound London Road, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue (avoiding Low railway bridge - 4.8m/15ft 9’’) and follow Diversion 1 above.  


Diversion 3 – For M74 southbound closure at Junction 3A Daldowie off slip road & Uddingston via leave M74 southbound early at J2A Cambuslang/Tollcross, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue, (Note: Low railway bridge - 4.8m/15ft 9’’), continue A74 Glasgow Road to Broomhouse/ Daldowie & Uddingston areas.    


Diversion 4 - For M74 southbound closure at Junction 4 Maryville, leave M74 southbound early at Junction 2A Cambuslang/Tollcross and follow Diversion 1 above. 


Diversion 5 – For M73 southbound Link Road closure to M74 southbound at Junction 1 Maryville, leave M73 early at Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road for Baillieston roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road for Swinton roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, 2nd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge, continue A8 eastbound for Shawhead Junction off slip road (A725), continue A725 southbound to Raith Junction roundabout and follow permanent signage for M74 North & South, Strathclyde Country Park, Bothwell & Hamilton areas. 


Diversion 6 – M8 eastbound traffic for M74 southbound Carlisle, leave M8 at Junction 8 Baillieston for A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road and Bargeddie roundabout, take 2nd exit and continue A8 eastbound Coatbridge and follow Diversion 1 above. 


Diversion 7 – M73 southbound drivers approaching closure at M74 southbound Link Road at Junction 1 Maryville, take M73 southbound off slip road for M73 southbound drivers approaching closure at M74 southbound Link Road at Junction 1 Maryville, take M73 southbound off slip road for Daldowie, cross M74 overbridge, take Daldowie on slip road to M73 northbound (Stirling), continue M73 northbound and take Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout and follow Diversion 1 above.  


Diversion 8 - For M74 southbound on slip road closure at Glasgow Road Uddingston (A721), take A721 Glasgow Road (West), take Daldowie on slip road to M73 northbound (Stirling), continue M73 northbound and take Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout and follow Diversion 1 above. 


Local diversion routes will be in place during the closures.
The diversion route will add 4.5 miles and 10 minutes on to affected journeys.    


Emergency services access will be maintained.  


The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council, Glasgow City Council and the emergency services. 


Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
