M74 Northbound Between Junctions 1A and 1 at Port Eglinton Viaduct | Essential Expansion Joint Replacements
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential expansion joint replacements on the northbound M74 between Junctions 1A and 1, at Port Eglinton Viaduct, from Wednesday 6th May until Saturday 9th May 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
This work will require overnight closures of the northbound M74.
Main Diversion Route
Drivers travelling northbound on the M74 who wish to continue past Junction 1 and travel towards the M8 westbound will be diverted via:
Polmadie Road, Calder Street, Aitkenhead Road, Cathcart Road, Lauriston Road, Ballater Street, Norfolk Street, Nelson Street, Morrison Street, Patterson Street, Wallace Street and Dalintober Street, rejoining the motorway network at the M8 westbound Junction 21 on‑slip.
This diversion route is only for traffic continuing on the motorway network.
Drivers intending to leave the M74 at Junction 1A will not be required to follow the full diversion route.
Drivers who intend to leave the M74 at Junction 1 should not follow the diversion route to the M8. They will be able to exit at Junction 1 as normal and will be guided by local road signage.
Junction 1A On‑Slip Closure
During the works, the northbound M74 Junction 1A on‑slip will also be closed.
Traffic affected by this closure will be diverted via Polmadie Road, New Rutherglen Road, Caledonia Road and Cathcart Road, where it will then join the main diversion route.
This route is provided specifically for drivers unable to access the M74 at Junction 1A.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway structure in this location.
Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
