M74 Northbound Between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 2A Cambuslang | Essential Cyclic Maintenance

Road users are advised that the M74 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight for 2 consecutive nights as detailed below from Wednesday 12 November 2025 for essential cyclic maintenance and road surface patching works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The M74 northbound carriageway between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 2A Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) will be closed overnight for 2 consecutive nights, from 8pm on the days below to 6am the following day:
•    Wednesday 12 November & Thursday 13 November (2 nights)

As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:
•    M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on Slip Road, including freeflow on slip from Bothwell
•    M74 northbound Link Road to M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville
•    M73 southbound link road to M74 northbound at Junction 1 Maryville
•    M74 northbound Junction 3A Daldowie off slip road (A721 Broomhouse/ Uddingston)
•    M73 southbound off slip for Daldowie (A721 Broomhouse/ Uddingston)
•    M74 northbound Junction 3A Daldowie on slip road
•    M74 northbound Junction 3 Carmyle off slip road
•    M74 northbound Junction 2A Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) off slip road

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential cyclic maintenance and road surface patching works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am the following day.
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:

Main Diversion 1 - For M74 northbound closure at Junction 5 Raith via M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith off slip road to Raith roundabout, take 4th exit for A725 northbound towards Coatbridge, A8 westbound Shawhead Junction on slip road and continue A8 westbound to Bargeddie roundabout (A89 Coatbridge Road), take 1st exit for M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road and Glasgow or for Glasgow South East take A8 Coatbridge Road to Swinton roundabout. For M73 Stirling & The North take 1st exit at Swinton roundabout and follow permanent signage. For M74 northbound/ Daldowie/ Carmyle/ Cambuslang take 2nd exit at Swinton roundabout for A8(M) westbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road, A89 Main Street Baillieston, A89 westbound Glasgow Road Baillieston, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue, A74 westbound London Road (follow signs for Carmyle/Cambuslang), Fullarton Road and follow permanent signage for M74 northbound Glasgow Airport/Kilmarnock (M8) or take M74 southbound Junction 2A on slip road for Daldowie/ A721 and Broomhouse & Uddingston. 

Diversion 2 - For M73 southbound traffic and link road to M74 northbound closure for Glasgow South East via leave M73 southbound early at Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8 westbound Glasgow Road, A89 Main Street Baillieston, A89 westbound Glasgow Road Baillieston, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue, A74 westbound London Road, Fullarton Road and follow permanent signage for M74 northbound Glasgow Airport/Kilmarnock (M8).

Diversion 3 - Diversion 3 - For M8 westbound traffic and M73 southbound link road to M74 northbound closure for Glasgow South East via leave M8 westbound at Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8(M) westbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout and follow Diversion 2 above.

Diversion 4 - For M8 eastbound traffic and M73 southbound link road to M74 northbound closure for Glasgow South East via M8 eastbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road for A89 Coatbridge, A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound Coatbridge Road to Swinton roundabout. For M73 Stirling & The North take 1st exit at Swinton roundabout and follow permanent signage. For M74 northbound/ Daldowie/ Carmyle/ Cambuslang take 2nd exit at Swinton roundabout for A8(M) westbound Glasgow & Edinburgh Road, A89 Main Street Baillieston, A89 westbound Glasgow Road Baillieston, B7058 Mount Vernon Avenue, A74 westbound London Road (follow signs for Carmyle/Cambuslang), Fullarton Road and follow permanent signage for M74 northbound Glasgow Airport/Kilmarnock (M8).
 

Diversion 5 - For M74 northbound Junction 3A Daldowie off slip closure via diversion 1 above and at Fullarton Road roundabout take 1st exit for M74 southbound Junction 2A on slip road for Daldowie and A721 Broomhouse & Uddingston.
 

Diversion 6 - For M74 northbound Junction 3 Carmyle off slip closure via follow Diversion 1 above and on A74 westbound London Road take A763 Carmyle Avenue and follow permanent signage for Carmyle & Cambuslang.

    
Diversion 7 - For M74 northbound Junction 2A Cambuslang off slip closure via follow Diversion 1 above and on Fullarton Road, take 2nd exit at Fullarton roundabout and follow permanent signage for Cambuslang. 
 

Local diversion routes will be in place during the closures. 

The diversion route will add 4.58 miles and 10 minutes on to affected journeys.    

Emergency services access will be maintained.  

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Glasgow City Council and the emergency services.
