M74 Junction 8-9 | Barrier Upgrades

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential barrier upgrades and drainage upgrades on the M74 in both directions between Junctions 8 and 9 from Sunday 2nd August until Friday 2nd October 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. The work shall be carried out in phases as follows:

Phase 1: Sunday 2nd August – Friday 11th September

Overnight hard shoulder and single lane closures on the southbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am each night. Full overnight closures southbound will be in operation from 8pm until 6am the following morning on Sunday 2nd August, Sunday 16th August and Thursday 3rd September 2026.
Traffic will be directed to exit at Junction 8, follow the B7078 Carlisle Road through Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill and re-join the southbound M74 at Junction 10.

Phase 2: Sunday 6th September – Friday 2nd October

Overnight hard shoulder and single lane closures on the northbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am each night. Full overnight closures of the northbound carriageway in this location will be in operation from 8pm until 6am the following morning on Sunday 6th September and between 8pm and 6am each night from Sunday 20th September until Thursday 24th September 2026.
Traffic will be directed to exit at Junction 10, follow the B7078 Carlisle Road through Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill and re-join the northbound M74 at Junction 8.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
