M74 Junction 7-9 | Resurfacing
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the southbound M74 hard shoulder between Junctions 7 and 9, including the off slips, from Monday 2nd February until Friday 20th March 2026, between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
The work will be undertaken in multiple phases with varying dates and traffic management. The programme of works is as below:
FEBRUARY 2026
Monday 2nd February – Tuesday 3rd February 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 7 and 8 will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 7 and follow A72 Lanark Road and A71 Ayr Road to re-join the M74 at the Junction 8 on slip. Additional travel time of approximately 5 minutes.
Monday 2nd February - Saturday 14th February 2026:
Overnight closures of the hard shoulder and near side lane on the southbound carriageway between Junctions 7 and 8 will be in operation.
Monday 2nd February – Sunday 22nd February 2026:
Continuous closure of the hard shoulder on the southbound carriageway between Junction 7 and 8 will be in operation. The Junction 7 off slip will remain open.
Sunday 15th February – Friday 20th February 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 7 and 8 will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 7 and follow A72 Lanark Road and A71 Ayr Road to re-join the M74 at the Junction 8 on slip. Additional travel time of approximately 5 minutes.
Monday 16th February – Saturday 28th February 2026:
Overnight closures of the hard shoulder and near side lane on the southbound carriageway between Junctions 8 and 9 will be in operation. The Junctions 8 and 9 off slips will remain open.
Sunday 22nd February – Thursday 26th February 2026:
Overnight closures of the near side lane on the southbound carriageway at Junction 7 will be in operation. The Junction 7 off slip will remain open.
Sunday 22nd February – Thursday 12th March 2026:
Continuous closures of the hard shoulder on the southbound carriageway at Junction 7 will be in operation. The Junction 7 off slip will remain open.
MARCH 2026
Sunday 1st March – Thursday 5th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the near side lane on the southbound carriageway at Junction 7 will be in operation. The Junction 7 off slip will remain open.
Monday 2nd March – Friday 6th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 8 and 9, including the Junction 8 on slip and the Junction 9 off slip, will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 8 and follow Canderside Toll to the B7078 Carlisle Road to re-join the M74 at Junction 10. Additional travel time of approximately 4 minutes.
Sunday 8th March – Thursday 12th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the near side lane on the southbound carriageway at Junction 7 will be in operation. The Junction 7 off slip will remain open.
Monday 9th March – Tuesday 10th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 8 and 9, including the Junction 8 on slip and the Junction 9 off slip, will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 8 and follow Canderside Toll to the B7078 Carlisle Road to re-join the M74 at Junction 10. Additional travel time of approximately 4 minutes.
Wednesday 11th March – Friday 13th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 7 and 9, including the Junction 8 on slip and the Junction 9 off slip, will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 7 and follow A72 Lanark Road, A71 Ayr Road, Canderside and the B7078 Carlisle Road to re-join the M74 at Junction 10. Additional travel time of approximately 9 minutes.
Monday 16th – Friday 20th March 2026:
Overnight closures of the southbound M74 carriageway between Junction 8 and 9, including the Junction 8 on slip and the Junction 9 off slip, will be in operation. Traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 8 and follow Canderside Toll to the B7078 Carlisle Road to re-join the M74 at Junction 10. Additional travel time of approximately 4 minutes.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
