M74 Cambuslang Road Underbridge | Essential Bridge Expansion Joint Replacement
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge expansion joint replacements on the M74 Cambuslang Road underbridge in Rutherglen from Tuesday 17th March until Tuesday 14th April 2026.
The programme of work is as follows:
Total closure of the M74 southbound at Junction 2
An overnight closure (8pm - 6am) at this location, from the Glasgow Road overbridge to the A724 Junction, will be required on the following dates:
Tuesday 17th March 2026
Tuesday 31st March – 6am on Saturday 4th April 2026 (8pm - 6am, each night)
Monday 6th April – 6am on Saturday 11th April 2026 (8pm – 6am, each night)
Monday 13th April 2026
A signed diversion will be in place with traffic directed to exit the M74 southbound via the Junction 2 off-slip road to join Cambuslang Road through Dalmarnock Road. From here, traffic will turn left onto Poplin Street and continue through Trafalgar Street, Shawfield Drive, and New Rutherglen Road. Traffic will take a further left turn to join Polmadie Road, where it will be able to re-join the M74 via the Junction 1a northbound on-slip road and diversion will end.
Total closure of the M74 northbound at Junction 2
An overnight closure (8pm - 6am) at this location, from Fullarton Junction – A724 Junction and A724 overbridge to Glasgow Road overbridge, will be required on the following dates:
Wednesday 18th March – 6am on Saturday 21st March 2026 (8pm - 6am, each night)
Monday 23rd March – 6am on Saturday 28th March 2026 (8pm – 6am, each night)
Monday 30th March 2026
Tuesday 14th April 2026
A signed diversion will be in place with traffic directed to exit the M74 northbound via the Junction 2 off-slip road to turn right onto Cambuslang Road through Dalmarnock Road. From here, traffic will join Shawfield Drive and New Rutherglen Road. Traffic will be able to re-join the M74 via the Junction 1a northbound on-slip road and diversion will end.
Additionally, overnight single lane closures (8pm - 6am) of the M74 northbound at Junction 2 will be required on the following dates:
Friday 10th April 2026
Monday 13th April 2026
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving road safety and the condition of the structure at this location.
