M74 Junction 6-7
26th of May 2026, 10:00pm to 27th of May 2026, 6:00am

The M74 between Junction 6 and 7, Hamilton will be closed Northbound from 22:00hrs on Tuesday 26th May until 06:00hrs on Wednesday 27th May.

Network Rail is reminding residents and motorists of a road closure scheduled to take place at the end of April on the M74 between junction 6 and 7, Hamilton.

As part of a commitment to providing a safe and reliable railway, engineers will be conducting a structural survey of the railway bridge (named M74 046/045) Northbound from 22:00hrs on Tuesday 26th May until 06:00hrs on Wednesday 27th May.

Coneworx on behalf of Amey will manage the closed section of road and will put out warning signs in advance of the closure and diversion signs out during it. Diversions will be in place on the A71, A72 and the A723.

Darren Dickson, Project Manager for Network Rail, said: “The work we’re undertaking will provide vital information on the condition of this railway bridge is crucial for the long-term future reliability of the line.

“Working on the railway at night offers the safest environment for our teams and causes the least disruption to our passengers and freight trains. However, we understand the inconvenience this work will cause some people.

“We would like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding and offer assurances that every effort has been made to reduce the impact of our activities as much as possible.”
