M73 Junction 2 Baillieston & Junction 3 Mollinsburn | Overnight Roadworks

M73 Junction 2 Baillieston & Junction 3 Mollinsburn
22nd of September 2025, 8:00pm to 11th of October 2025, 6:00am

Road users are advised that the M73 north and southbound carriageways between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 3 Mollinsburn will be closed for thirteen various overnights, commencing Monday 22 September 2025, for essential bridge joint replacement, carriageway patching and cyclic maintenance works.

The works are planned to be undertaken in two phases as follows:
 

Phase 1 – The M73 northbound carriageway between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 3 Mollinsburn will be closed overnight for six nights, from 8pm to 6am, for the following dates:
•    Monday 22 September to Wednesday 24 September (3 nights)
•    Monday 29 September to Wednesday 01 October (3 nights)
 

As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed: 
•    M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston on slip road from Baillieston roundabout
•    M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road
•    M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road
•    M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip road
•    M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn Link Road to M80 northbound

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge joint, road patching & cyclic maintenance works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am the following morning.

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:
Diversion 1 - For M73 northbound and Gartcosh via M73 northbound link road to M8 westbound at Junction 2 Baillieston, M8 westbound to Junction 13 Blochairn/Parkhead off-slip, Provan Road (north), M80 northbound Junction 1 Blochairn on-slip. Continue M80 north for Stirling and The North or for Gartcosh leave M80 northbound at Junction 4 Moodiesburn/Carlisle (M73) off-slip road, Mollins Road (south), Cumbernauld Road (east), M73 southbound Junction 4 Mollinsburn on-slip, continue M73 southbound for M73 Junction 2A Gartcosh off-slip.
Diversion 2 - For M73 northbound at Junction 2 Baillieston on-slip closure via 3rd exit on Baillieston roundabout to A8(M) and Swinton roundabout, 3rd exit on Swinton roundabout to A8 Coatbridge Road (east) to Bargeddie roundabout, 3rd exit at Bargeddie roundabout to join M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on-slip, continue M8 westbound and follow Diversion 1 above to M8 Junction 13 off slip road and follow permanent signage for M80 northbound. 
Diversion 3 - From M8 westbound Edinburgh for M73 northbound, continue on M8 westbound Blochairn/Parkhead off-slip and follow Diversion 1 above to M8 westbound Junction 13 Blochairn/Parkhead off slip road and follow permanent signage for M80 northbound. For Gartcosh leave M80 northbound at Junction 4 Moodiesburn/Carlisle (M73) off-slip road, Mollins Road (south), Cumbernauld Road (east), M73 southbound Junction 4 Mollinsburn on-slip, continue M73 southbound for M73 Junction 2A Gartcosh off-slip.
The northbound diversion route will add an estimated 15 miles and 18 minutes to affected journeys.  

Access through the works will be maintained for Emergency Service vehicles.

Phase 2 – The M73 southbound carriageway between Junction 3 Mollinsburn and Junction 2 Baillieston will be closed overnight for seven nights, from 8pm to 6am, on the following dates:
•    Thursday 02 October & Friday 03 October (2 Nights)
•    Monday 06 October to Friday 10 October (5 nights)
 

As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:
•    M80 southbound link road to M73 southbound at Junction 4 Mollinsburn
•    M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip road
•    M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip road
•    M73 southbound Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road
•    M73 southbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road
•    M73 southbound Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston Roundabout (M8/A8).

Diversion 1 - M80 southbound Junction 4 Mollinsburn Link Road & M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip closures continue M80 southbound to Junction 1 Blochairn off slip road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for M8 eastbound Junction 13 Blochairn on slip road, continue M8 eastbound and follow permanent signage for M8 at Junction 8 Baillieston Interchange for M8 Edinburgh or M73 & M74 (South for Carlisle). 
Diversion 2 – M80 southbound for access to Mollinsburn/ Moodiesburn/ Chryston follow diversion 1 above to M8 eastbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road for A89 Coatbridge and Bargeddie roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound Coatbridge Road for Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road for Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston on slip road, Continue M73 northbound to Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road or continue M73 northbound for Junction 3 and follow permanent signage for Mollinsburn/ Moodiesburn/ Chryston.
Diversion 3 – From Gartcosh for access to M73 southbound Carlisle & South via M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road, M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip to roundabout at A80 Cumbernauld Road, take 2nd exit for Mollins Road, M80 southbound Junction 4 Moodiesburn on slip road, continue M80 southbound to Junction 1 Blochairn off slip road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for M8 eastbound Junction 13 Blochairn on slip road, continue M8 eastbound and follow Diversion 1 above and permanent signage.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council, Glasgow City Council and the emergency services.
The southbound diversion route will add an estimated 12 miles and 14 minutes to affected journeys.  

Access through the works will be maintained for Emergency Service vehicles.
 

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
