Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking the final phase of essential bridge deck refurbishments on the M8 eastbound between Junctions 25 (Cardonald) and 25A (Braehead).

Phase 3 of maintenance will take place from Friday 18th August until Saturday 30th September 2023 with traffic management in place 24 hours a day. Eastbound hard shoulder closures will also be installed from Tuesday 15th August to Thursday 17th August 2023 ahead of the main works recommencing.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Maintenance was demobilised and paused following the completion of Phase 2 to ease the congestion of Glasgow's transport infrastructure due to increased traffic flows over the peak summer period.

The work will be carried out on a 24-hour basis, using a contraflow and a temporary 40mph speed limit.

The contraflow will operate as follows:

One lane of eastbound traffic will run in contraflow in the westbound carriageway. The lane will cross over into the westbound carriageway before Junction 26 and will return to the eastbound carriageway before Junction 24. The westbound hard shoulder will be in operation as a running lane for all westbound traffic. Narrow lanes will also be utilised.

Please note, the 40mph average speed cameras installed at this location will be re-activated and will remain active until completion of the scheme.

To remobilise the traffic management at this location a total closure of the M8 westbound between Junctions 24 and 26 will be required from 8pm on Friday 18th August until 6am on Saturday 19th August 2023 with a signed diversion in operation. Westbound traffic will be diverted at Junction 24 to turn left onto Helen Street and will then turn right onto Paisley Road West. At the traffic signals, traffic will turn right onto the A736, Sandwood Road and at the roundabout will take the first exit. At the following roundabout, traffic will take the second exit onto Hillington Road and will continue straight on at the next roundabout to M8 Junction 26 at Hillington Interchange where diversion will end.

A second total closure of the M8 eastbound between Junctions 27 and 24 will be required from 8pm on Sunday 20th August until 6am on Monday 21st August 2023 with a signed diversion in place. Traffic will be diverted at Junction 27 to turn left onto the A726, Renfrew Road and will turn left onto A761, Paisley Road West. From here, traffic will turn left onto Helen Street and will rejoin the M8 eastbound at Junction 24.

Similar closures will be required at the end of the programme of maintenance to remove traffic management and will be communicated closer to that date.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work continues.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
