Amey South-West Trunk Roads prepares for Storm Éowyn to impact central and south-west Scotland with a Met Office red weather warning for wind in place from 10am until 5pm on Friday 24th January 2025.
A red warning is rare and signals very dangerous conditions and significant disruption. An amber weather warning for wind is also in place from 6am until 9pm on Friday.
Police Scotland advise the public to avoid travel in the affected red area as well as a high risk of disruption to areas impacted by additional amber warnings.
The storm is forecast to bring high winds gusting over 80mph and as a precaution the A898 Erskine Bridge will be closed to all traffic between 9am and 3pm. Restrictions to high sided vehicles will be in place from 3am onwards.
Please note, these timings may be subject to change as the situation develops. Latest information will be provided via swtrunkroads.scot and real-time updates via Traffic Scotland’s services.
Safety is paramount with Amey standing down all works sites on Friday and traffic management on currently mobilised sites will be secured.
High winds mean that high tides and flooding are to be expected across coastal areas, particularly the A78.
Ready Scotland provide information to help the public prepare and deal with emergencies, including severe weather advice, and is accessible via ready.scot.
