A985 Rosyth | Resurfacing

A985 Rosyth
9th of November 2026, 8:00pm to 21st of November 2026, 6:00am

Drivers are being warned to expect overnight road closures and parking restrictions in Rosyth when the A985 trunk road through the town is resurfaced in November.

The works are programmed to commence on the night of Monday 9 November and conclude on the night of Friday 20 November. No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public, sections of the A985 through Rosyth will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 each night of these works, with signed diversion routes in place.

On the nights of 9 and 10 November:

The A985 will be closed between Kings Road Roundabout and Crossroads Roundabout. A diversion route for traffic in both directions will be in place via Kings Road, the A823(M) and the M90. This will add approximately 1.8 miles and 3 minutes to journeys.

Traffic not permitted to use the motorway will be diverted via Kings Road, Queensferry Road, Carnegie Avenue, Lapwing Drive, Aberdour Road, the B981 North Road and Admiralty Road. This will add approximately 4.3 miles and 9 minutes to affected journeys.

On the nights of 11 and 12 November:

The A985 will be closed at Crossroads Roundabout.

On the nights of 13 to 20 November:

The A985 will be closed between Crossroads Roundabout and Admiralty Roundabout, and the M90 Junction 1C northbound on-slip and off-slip will both be closed.

Eastbound traffic on the A985 will be diverted via the same route as on 9 to 12 November, however westbound traffic will be diverted south on the M90 to turn at Junction 1B Ferrytoll, returning northbound to exit at Junction 2 Masterton and follow the A823(M) westbound and Kings Road southbound to Kings Road Roundabout. This diversion will add an estimated 2 miles and 3 minutes to journeys.

Traffic on the M90 northbound wishing to join the A921 eastbound at Junction 1C will be diverted onwards to exit at Junction 2 and follow the A823(M) westbound to turn at Pitreavie Roundabout and return eastbound, joining the M90 southbound to exit via the Junction 1C southbound off-slip. This will add approximately 3.1 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.

Overnight parking restrictions will be in place between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights that works are taking place, localised during each phase.

Access into Rosyth will be maintained for local residents and emergency services, and pedestrian access across the town will be maintained.

The web page www.bearscot.com/rosyth contains full details of the programme and detailed maps illustrating diversion routes. This will be kept up to date with any changes.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing works will provide the A985 through Rosyth with a smoother, safer new road surface.

“We understand that road closures are disruptive, therefore we’ve planned these works to take place overnight when traffic flows are lower.

“We’ll also do what we can to mitigate noise disruption to local residents, including completing the noisiest operations by 11pm each night.

“We kindly ask that parking restrictions are adhered to, helping us to complete the works safely, efficiently and with as little disruption to the local community as possible.

“We thank the local community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
