A96 Nairn | Traffic Signal Upgrades

Lochloy Road/Library Junction
26th of October 2026, 7:00am to 11th of December 2026, 7:00pm

Motorists using the A96 through Nairn are set to benefit from upgraded traffic signals at two key town centre junctions which will help maintain road safety and improve network reliability.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will upgrade existing traffic signal equipment at Lochloy Road Junction and Library Junction as part of a two-phase programme from Monday 26th October.

The existing traffic signal equipment at both junctions is approaching the end of its operational life and will be replaced with modern technology that provides improved reliability, greater energy efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements.

The works will take place as follows:

Lochloy Road Junction: Monday 26th October to Friday 13th November.
Library Junction: Monday 16th November to Friday 11th December.

The improvements at Lochloy Road Junction will be delivered in collaboration with Scottish Water while separate utility works are undertaken in the area.

By coordinating the programmes and sharing traffic management arrangements, both organisations will minimise the need for separate periods of disruption and reduce the overall impact on road users and the local community.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, temporary traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day throughout each phase of the works.

The temporary signals will operate in a similar manner to the existing junction traffic lights and will be manned between 7am and 7pm each day to help minimise delays and maintain traffic flow.

Lane restrictions will also be required throughout the works to provide a safe working area and allow the installation of the new signal equipment.

While every effort will be made to reduce disruption, motorists may experience some delays while traffic management is in place.

Please note that all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
