Amey is undertaking overnight surfacing improvements on the A96 at Inverurie over two separate phases between Thursday 25th June and Wednesday 22nd July.

The £420,000 project, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will resurface approximately 864 metres of the A96 between 460 metres north of the St James's Place overbridge to Blackhall Roundabout.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential maintenance will be carried out under overnight convoy in phase one followed by overnight road closures in phase two, as follows:

Phase 1 – Thursday 25th June to Wednesday 1st July

Overnight convoy from 7.30pm to 6am between Inverurie Roundabout and Blackhall Roundabout.

There will be no overnight work on Friday 26th June and Saturday 27th June. This phase is scheduled to be completed by 6am on Wednesday 1st July.

Please be aware that there may be delays of up to four minutes when the overnight convoy is in place.

Phase 2 – Sunday 12th July to Wednesday 22nd July

Overnight road closures from 8pm to 6.30am between Inverurie Roundabout and Blackhall Roundabout.
There will be no overnight work on Friday 17th July and Saturday 18th July.

Diversion route:

A96 westbound traffic can take the third exit at Inverurie Roundabout onto the B993 into Inverurie. They can continue on the B993 Elphinstone Road to the next roundabout, turning right onto St. James’s Place and follow the road to the next junction. Traffic can then turn left and follow the High Street/B9001 to the next roundabout at Market Place, taking the first left onto West High Street and continuing to the next mini roundabout. At the roundabout they can take the 2nd exit onto the B9170 Blackhall Road and follow the route to Blackhall Roundabout where they can rejoin the A96 westbound. Eastbound traffic can follow this route in reverse.

The diversion route will add up to eight minutes additional journey time.

During the overnight closures traffic will also be controlled across Blackhall Roundabout using a convoy system from the B9170 Blackhall Road East to the A96 north of Blackhall Roundabout.
Diversion route:

Traffic from Blackhall Road West will only be able to travel northbound on the A96, They will be able to access Inverurie via the junction with North Street (signposted for Brandsbutt).

The Corsemanhill Drive entry and exit to Blackhill Roundabout will also be closed from Sunday 12th July at 8pm to Wednesday 22nd July at 6.30am. A diversion will be in place via Blackhall Road West.

All work is scheduled to be completed by 6.30am on Wednesday 22nd July.

The resurfacing will benefit more than 18,400 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
