Amey is currently undertaking overnight work to refurbish road linings and studs along the A96 between Elgin and Nairn until Saturday 29th August.

The £460,000 scheme, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will enhance line and road visibility for nearly 18,000 motorists who travel this route each day, helping to improve safety for all road users.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the work will take place under a rolling programme of overnight road closures of the A96 between Elgin and Nairn from 7.30pm to 5am on Monday to Fridays.

Local road access will be maintained on the A96 up to the start and end points of each closure location.

The following amnesties will be in place to allow traffic through the works areas.

7.30pm to midnight: Every 30 minutes:
Midnight to 5am: Every hour.

The following diversion route will also be in place.

Eastbound traffic from Elgin can take the A941 southbound towards Craigellachie, continuing on the route as it becomes the A95. Traffic can then follow the A95 until its junction with the A9, turning right onto the A9 towards Inverness. Traffic can then follow the A9 to Raigmore Interchange until where they can exit for the A96 Nairn/Aberdeen. At Raigmore Interchange they can then take the third exit for to access the A96 and travel to Nairn.

Westbound traffic can follow the above route in reverse.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
