A96 Between Craibstone Roundabout and Inverurie | Woodland Managemet
Amey is undertaking essential woodland management on the A96 between Craibstone Roundabout and Inverurie from Monday 24th November to Tuesday 10th February 2026.
The essential maintenance, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will trim and remove areas of woodland adjacent to the A96 for the safety of the travelling public and to improve driver visibility.
Traffic management will be in place on the A96 between approximately 400 metres west of Craibstone Roundabout and 400 metres west of Inverurie Roundabout.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential maintenance will be carried out under a rolling programme of overnight lane restrictions between 7.30pm and 6.30am on the A96, as well as slip road and local authority road closures.
The rolling programme is scheduled to take part as follows:
- Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th November: A96 westbound lane 1 closure from 600m to 1.2km west from Craibstone Roundabout.
- Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th November: A96 westbound lane 1 closure from 200m to 400m west from T-junction with B979.
- Monday 8th to Wednesday 17th December: A96 eastbound lane 1 closure at Tavelty junction slip roads, Kintore.
- Monday 8th to Thursday 11th December: A96 eastbound off-slip closure at Tavelty junction, Kintore. There will be 3-way temporary traffic lights on B987 Northern Road.
Diversion due to off-slip closure: Traffic will be diverted via the next off-slip, signposted for B977.
- Thursday 11th to Wednesday 17th December: A96 eastbound on-slip closure at Tavelty junction, Kintore.
Diversion due to on-slip closure: Traffic will be diverted via the A96 westbound on-slip at Tavelty Junction. From there, drivers should continue along the A96 to Thainstone Roundabout and take the fourth exit to rejoin the A96 eastbound.
- Wednesday 17th to Friday 18th December: A96 westbound lane 1 closure from 1.5km to 500m west of Craibstone Roundabout.
- Monday 5th to Tuesday 20th January: A96 westbound lane 1 closure from 800m west of Kinellar Roundabout to Clinterty Roundabout 4.
- Monday 5th to Thursday 8th January: Closure of Glasgoforest bus stop and footpath, Kinellar.
Tuesday 20th to Wednesday 21st January: Overnight closure of the B973 entry from Clinterty Roundabout.
Diversion due to B973 closure: Continue on the A96 and Blackburn can be reached via Kinellar Roundabout.
- Wednesday 21st to Wednesday 28th January: A96 westbound lane 1 closure from 350m west of Thainstone Roundabout to 100m west of Inverurie Roundabout. There will be 4-way temporary traffic lights on Inverurie Roundabout.
- Wednesday 28th to Thursday 29th January: Overnight closure of B993 entry and exit at Inverurie Roundabout. There will be a full closure of the B993.

Diversion due to closure of B993: Drivers travelling from the B993 wishing to access the A96 can turn right and follow the B994 as an alternative route.
Drivers travelling from the A96 towards Kemnay can take the fourth exit at Inverurie Roundabout and remain on the A96. They can then take the second off-slip, signposted for the B977. From there, traffic can follow the B977 to the next roundabout and exit onto the B994 towards Kemnay.
- Thursday 29th to Friday 30th January: There will 4-way temporary traffic lights on Inverurie Roundabout.
- Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th February: There will be 2-way temporary traffic lights on the A96 eastbound from 400m west of Inverurie Roundabout up to Inverurie Roundabout.
- Wednesday 4th to Monday 9th February: A96 eastbound lane 1 closure from 1.7km east of Clinterty Roundabout to 2.2km east of Clinterty Roundabout.
